I don't know whether it was the labels more, or the song titles, which drew me to it like a crippled moth to a flame ; but it was certainly a combination of the two. I see from your scans that the label is (was ?) based in New Jersey. Would it be too easy to infer Merel were a NJ band ?
Merel: "Featuring a rhythm section who went on to help form New Jersey's RYE COALITION, MEREL played chaotic, abrasive, & quite loud experimental hardcore that separated itself from the norm with its unlikely musical creativity. Fierce vocals lead the way, & they are actually relatively understandable while still being quite aggressively screamed. The band toys with both straight-ahead hardcore & a much more explosive style...Merel develops their hardcore with no boundaries, & wailing guitars along with unrestrained song structures push the music toward increasingly effective results" - Peter J. D'Angelo, All Music Guide
One of my all-time favorite hardcore bands of their time.
I like this one a lot.

This is good.
Near the top of the heap for a reason.
ReplyDeleteNew Jersey indeed.
Gern Bladsten Records is kinda famous as purveyors of tasty tuneage.
