On any post, if the link is no longer good, leave a comment if you want the music re-uploaded. As long as I still have the file, or the record, cd, or cassette to re-rip, I will gladly accommodate in a timely manner all such requests.

Its not Crow as in How, its Crow as in Know

The three releases featured in this post are available various places about the interweb. It is a must-have trilogy for anyone interested in Aleister Crowley or Magick. Gothick has offered it freely through the Creative Commons Attribution Non-Commercial Share-Alike license. I have just put it all in one place.

Gothick is a British industrial/experimental/rock band founded by Sean Woodward in 1999. Sean is an English poet, writer, artist & digital wizard, whose decades-long interest in Aleister Crowley & the culture of Thelema (hence the spelling with a K)  resulted in Nu-Had-Ra, a trilogy of works based on Crowley’s Book of the Law (Liber AL vel Legis, sub figura CCXX, as delivered by XCIII=418 to DCLXVI).  Gothick’s musick is in the traditional as well as dark ambient & soundscape genres. This project is often said to remind listeners of Coil, yet that barely touches the surface of the multi-layer textures found here. Experimental industrial & ambient sounds are juxtaposed with the classic guitar tones of Led Zeppelin with the addition of a somewhat goth sensibility, particularly the vocals. Perhaps Woodward’s musick is not everyone’s evening listening, but there is great pleasure to be found in his poetic lyrics, suggesting the secrets, drama & horror of Crowley’s summoning of Aiwass without dealing directly with it.

Part One: Invokation Ov Nuit is the result of a communion with the Goddess of the first chapter of Liber AL vel Legis. It ranges from the haunting evokation of “Aleister's Amazing Bookcase” to the upbeat “Templar Road”. It is a series of visionary experiences encapsulated in sound & preserved as heirlooms for the future.

Part Three: Convokation Ov Ra-Hoor-Khuit, the culmination of the trilogy, marks the endgame of this massively creative & magickal undertaking. Perhaps Woodward’s musick is not everyone’s evening listening, but there is great pleasure to be found in his poetic lyrics, tangentially suggesting the secrets, drama & horror of Crowley’s summoning of Aiwass.
