Fungi Porchini

Here's the second round of requests from Mauxuam. That oh so funky mushroom, Funki Porcini...

James Braddell is Funki Porcini. Though born in London, he abandoned his Kings Court squat at the age of nineteen for the new environs of America. He arrived in Los Angeles with only three hundred dollars to his name. He took a menial labor job to survive, stocking shelves in a Westwood department store. When he had earned enough money, he hitch-hiked to San Francisco. Once in San Francisco, he bought a saxophone & moved into the Residents' old warehouse, where Snakefinger was still living. San Francisco had an active post punk scene of radical experimentation. It was there that Porcini started his journey in music. Although rubbing shoulders with such luminaries as Mark Pauline / Survival Research Laboratories, Monte Cazzaza, Factrix, & a host of other underground artists, Porcini decided to head to New York with two friends.

Porcini lived in the East Village with new found Australian friend Graeme Revell of the band SPK. He enjoyed NYC but eventually moved back to England, then a brief stop-over in Berlin, then on to Italy where he remained for 10 years making music for film & television, establishing his 9Lazy9 label with Keir Fraser.

Making connections with UK label Ninja Tune, Porcini returned to England. He set up his studio The Uterus Goldmine & recorded his first album Hed Phone Sex

  2. Thank you NØ. One of the many joys of your blog is the way you make me listen to long lost gems again, in their entirety, as they were made to be. I'd play 'The Big Sea' in a set as I'd always loved it but I'd forgotten the way 'Fast Asleep' flows as an LP.
If you're still doing requests could I ask if you have another Ninja fav? I used to play 'Big Amoeba Sound' by Max & Harvey regularly and wondered if you had anything else that they produced?

    1. Man, as soon as I threaten to take it easy for a little bit, the requests come flying in. If I ask for suggestions for some future shares, all I get is Radio Silence. Is this a conspiracy?

I think this is the only thing I have from Max & Harvey (I might have some various Woob, though):

      Max & Harvey - Have Landed, Bigamoebasounds BASCD02, 2012.
