An odd competition, if I may say so, pitting mostly 1980s tracks (ACR) against 1990s (everyone else), but it does go to show that the former wins hands down, despite the current (already passé?) 1990s revival ...
ReplyDeleteTrying to see if ACR could still hold up against music that came after them. The Shamen & Utah Saints are shall we say "of an era" but Dreadzone & ACR both carry on. They happened about because I noticed just how many Singles I had of all these outfits.
DeleteI hope my comment didn't sound harsh; it wasn't meant to be! I'm enjoying the ACR tracks! Thanks.
DeleteNot at all. I was just trying to go through my thought process. Appreciated the comment. Gave me the oppurtunity to explain the insanity here.
DeleteDreadzone have pulled two fat rabbits out of their hat today! Two cracking mixes, driving proper bass, Mafia Tone mix is my preferred out of the two. Compare the mixes on this single with the album version (Once upon a time) and it's clear to me now that it's the vocals on the plain 'vanilla' tracks that I don't get on with.
ReplyDeleteACR has given us two excellent tracks from their early work, different mixes to the album versions, a taste of the funk that carries through to the present day. Two tracks that I have listened to many, many times before
The Shamen comes in strong with three interesting, more 'grown up' tracks. No vocals thankfully. A strong showing.
Utah Saints nearly had me with the first track, but when I got to the vocals - that's when for me the track went down hill. The other two mixes - nope.
Crikey! I can't decide; can I declare a three way draw? Please...
Thanks once more for the insights as to your likes & dislikes. As such a good participant, I'll grant you a three-way. Now I just have to decide: one point for each of the three or 1/3 point each. Think I'll go with the thirds just to make things even weirder.
DeleteJust when I thought Dreadzone or the Shamen might have a chance to catch up -- Knife Slits Water? Hardly seems fair. All the wind goes out of their sails, and there they sit, dead in the water. As if those sails had been -- well, slit to ribbons by some sort of knife-like object.
ReplyDeleteACR cut through the competition, for sure. Dreadzone elevate things for me quite properly, though. It's a good Round all round. I'll add your score.
DeleteHmmm, good techno from the Shamen this time (yes, no vocals does It for me).
ReplyDeleteNo dub from Dreadzone, far from there Roots... Meh.
Utah saints... Bah
And an excellent early single from ACR, a clean win !
Got it. Thanks.
