Immune in June

Immune was a post-rock band from Lyon, France active in the Aughts. Its members were: Jean-Sébastien Nouveau - samples, programming, drums, keyboards, & vocals; Martin Duru - piano, guitar, keyboard, & bass; Gary Soubrier - vocals; & Julien Nouveau - cello, guitar, & toys. Their use of magnificent guitars, piano melodies, smooth electronics, & strings walk a thin line between post-rock & sad post-electronic pop. Superb intimate music mingling with organic sounds.

Monsoon in June

I've shared Sheila Chandra several times before here. This one was originally released as Third Eye by Monsoon in 1983. This is the North American 1995 reissue CD with alternate versions of several tracks (the longer 12" version of "Shakti" & a slightly different "Watchers") & six additional tracks. It is credited as Monsoon featuring Sheila Chandra. Monsoon was a world music trio consisting of Chandra, her husband Steve Coe, & Martin Smith.

Note of interest to followers of this blog, Bill Nelson plays E-Bow & electric guitar.

Tonight at Noon in June

I don't share much jazz here. I listen to a lot but am not really knowledgeable enough to be presenting it to others. I just know what I like. I like the double-bass stylings & studio overdubbing of Charles Mingus & here he is joined by saxophonist Roland Kirk on several tracks.

The Loon in June

The Loon is the first full-length release from Minneapolis indie band Tapes ‘n Tapes. While not the high-water mark of originality (playing a wide mash of influences from the various Pavements-like bands of 80s lo-fi & indie), they definitely play with a boundless energy & enthusiasm throughout all the album's eleven tracks. Derivative or not, The Loon retains a genuinely empathetic sincerity that gives weird, left-of-centre indie an enjoyable platform.

The Moon in June

As the moon in June wanes, I wax poetic.
The moon in June shines firstly on D. Boon.

Minuteman D. was an important figure in the history of punk rock & independent music. Boon's solos were very unique, using odd rhythms or scales that were influenced by jazz or classical guitar. He was one of the most technically accomplished American punk guitarists of all time.

4:40 am - Centennial, Arizona - 12/22/1985

D. Boon's life was tragically cut short on a lonely stretch of Interstate 10 in the Arizona desert at the age of 27. He was traveling with his fiance, Linda Kite at the wheel, & his sister Jeannine in the passenger seat. He was asleep in the back of the 1979 Dodge van when a broken left rear axle caused the van to go off the road & roll over. Dennes was thrown from the van & suffered a broken neck.
