Slag Boom Van Loon in June

Note to all: Yesterday I was able to stop by for the first time since Monday. I saw all the comments & posted them Up. I had every intention of writting a response but after ten minutes I had one sentence done & had to Call it. Will explain as soon as I can. Fear not, all will be well at NSS in the near future. W are all one. I love you all. Keep the music alive.

Previously prepared for the waning days of June...

Slag Boom Van Loon

Slag Boom Van Loon was an experimental IDM duo recording for the influencial Planet Mu label in the late 90s-early 00s, made up of Jochem Paap & Mike Paradinas. Mike "Mu-ziq" Paradinas had previously teamed up with Rephlex co-owner & experimental music maverick Richard D. James (Aphex Twin) to less than stellar results. He then hooked up with breakbeat convert Jochem "Speedy J" Paap. This time the pairing was much more successful, creating music that consistently balances playfulness with gravity & innovation with structure. Serene washes of melody float atop fidgety, yet subdued rhythms. Ambient, world music, & musique concrete exert equal influences. There’s nothing really new about crunchy beats playing off pretty synths, but here the Roland System 100, SH-101, & EMS Synthi unsettle just as often as the sampled & sliced-up percussion, leaving tightly concocted hypnotic reverie.

Couldn’t help sharing both of their releases. Their self-titled came out in 1998..

  3. Glad to have news from you again. I have so much music from you to go through, I noticed but I thought, he'll have his reasons, there might be a faltering human behid this blog. Me, I could not stand the heat, came to nothing, dumped a load of music on a usb and went into hibernation, or is it an extended siësta.

Waiting for the second link to Slagboom van Loon (english should say the 'a' in slag as in hard and the boom/loon as boam/loan
Both Mike and Jochem are great, Jochem's Public Energy 12''s on Probe were awesome. If you don't know them I'll send them

  6. Wishing you love, peace and axle grease -- whatever you need to keep the big wheels turning. Hope that the short order cook at Casa de Nada will be properly soused and slinging tunes again soon

And thank you for highlighting these two excellent albums, both are wonderful and ones that I revisit often and keep finding new depths to them.

    1. 10% and you're still better then most of the world.. 10% seems to give me a worry, are you doing that poorly? Should it be 99% right, because of the typo?
