Merel

UPDATE: This post was re-uploaded 01/05/2-14. Enjoy, NØ.

Merel - Gern 2  7", Gern Blandsten Gern002, 1991.

side one:
my sweet dull god
shivers through
the weathering

side two:
roadkill
bile (the golden years)

When I went to re-upload this, I realized I had sometime after this post acquired Merel - The Early Recordings 1990-1991. It contains this 7"er & twenty more tracks, so i am posting up the entire thig. If you want the 7" separate, you can DIY. The decryption code as always is in the comments.

Enjoy,

  1. I like this one a lot.

I don't know whether it was the labels more, or the song titles, which drew me to it like a crippled moth to a flame ; but it was certainly a combination of the two.
I see from your scans that the label is (was ?) based in New Jersey. Would it be too easy to infer Merel were a NJ band ?

    This is good.

  2. Near the top of the heap for a reason.

    New Jersey indeed.

Gern Bladsten Records is kinda famous as purveyors of tasty tuneage.

Merel: "Featuring a rhythm section who went on to help form New Jersey's RYE COALITION, MEREL played chaotic, abrasive, & quite loud experimental hardcore that separated itself from the norm with its unlikely musical creativity. Fierce vocals lead the way, & they are actually relatively understandable while still being quite aggressively screamed. The band toys with both straight-ahead hardcore & a much more explosive style...Merel develops their hardcore with no boundaries, & wailing guitars along with unrestrained song structures push the music toward increasingly effective results" - Peter J. D'Angelo, All Music Guide

One of my all-time favorite hardcore bands of their time.

    1. to anonymous,
      Thanks for the comment.
Sorry I'm on the left coast, instead of NYC.
      That's a show I'd love to attend.
      Are you going?
If you do, can you leave a comment about the show?
      Thanks.

  5. whoa! I have a CD of Merel's "Discography", picked up entirely because it was on Gern Blandsten, and it has fifteen tracks. Needless to say, this has more, and thank you.
