Brunei

About the size of the state of Delaware USA, Brunei is an independent sultanate on the northwest coast of the island of Borneo in the South China Sea, wedged between the Malaysian states of Sabah & Sarawak. The country has extensive gas & oil resources so it is quite wealthy, but being so small & situated where it is, it relies primarily on imports for most of its consumer goods. It does not have a large music industry, so finding Brunei music has been tough.

Acidyouth is a Brunei band formed in 2000.  They released their first single "Light of the Dark" in 2004. Then after years of silence, their second single "Silent Hour" was finally released in Sept 2010 . They are mainly influenced by rock acts like Alter Bridge, Metallica, Joe Satriani, John Petrucci, Silverchair, & Smashing Pumpkins.

They have appeared twice on stage at JP Amphitheatre (Jerudong Park [JP] is an amusement park in Brunei, the largest & most expensive amusement park in South East Asia, built & funded by the Bruneian government for $1 billion). They also won Second Place at the Battle of the Band in Kuala Belait in 2003.

D'Hask is a Brunei screamo band. They formed in February 1999 with K-Roll – vocals & rhythm guitar, Syarif – keyboards & backing vocals, saiful – bass, & Hanif - drums under the name The Hask. The Hask performed on three occasions, with the Malaysian band Spring in 1999, with the Malaysian comedy group Senario in 2000, & then a concert in 2001. After that, the band decided to go on a short hiatus.
In 2004, The Hask, then already called D'Hask, resurfaced in the Brunei music scene with a slight change in their line-up. Reme had replaced Saiful as the bassist in 2002 & Luffy had replaced Hanif as drummer in 2003.  There final change came when Daus joined the band as their lead guitarist in 2007. The band line-up has since remained unchanged.

They released a five song EP entitled Breaking the Error in 2009.  In 2010 they released a four song demo with two of the BTE songs & two other songs, including their new English tune “What’s Killing Me?”
