Somethin’ from The Nothing from Nothin’

Trixz Sly (Torquill Smith) met Johnny Thunders & Jerry Nolan of The New York Dolls while they were in London in the mid-70s. He moved to New York City in 1978 where he formed The Nothing. The following year they recorded their lone 45.

By 1980, several members had left to join other bands & The Nothing broke up. Trixz later formed another band, the Cyanide Sweeties (along with Nothing bandmate Mickey Crash & Reactors guitarist Professor Ginz). They played the rock/punk clubs in NYC including CBGBs, & built a solid fan following at Max's Kansas City. Trixz played with many musicians, including The Misfits, The New York Dolls, The Sex Pistols, Billy Idol, Lou Reed, & Keith Richards.

Trixz recorded a solo 45 "Bossa Nova Baby" in 1980. He continued working with experimental music & film until his death in 2005. He partnered up with Adam West (Batman) to film a documentary on Woodstock '94, but the project was never finished. At the end of his life he was an activist for the homeless in Miami. He presented the "Homeless Bill of Rights" to the city of Miami Beach. He was found dead in his apartment. The cause of death was declared as "natural causes."

UPDATE TO ABOVE: directly from Mickey Crash -

"Angel Lectra (David Hames) should be credited as Lead Guitar and Musical Arranger. The lead guitar parts were played by Bobby B. Wild (Bob Stojack), but he left the band before the 7 inch record release. Angel was credited as Lead Guitarist since he would be the lead guitarist from then on until he left to join The Rockcats. The Nothing was originally formed by Trixz and Angel in 1978. The first show was in December 1978 at Max's Kansas City. Trixz was banned from Max's as a result of that show, evidently because it didn't go well. I played my first gig with The Nothing shortly after at Studio Zero on December 23, 1978 and moved to NYC from Hartford the following April. Angel and I played previously in a band from CT called Electroflex, Prior to that I was in another CT based punk band called The Hysterics. There was no bass tracks on Uniformz or Scream and Cry. Phil Shoenfelt (http://www.philshoenfelt.de/) played bass in a later incarnation of The Nothing and Trixz's following band, The Cyanide Sweeties. An earlier incarnation of that band existed in the UK with Gass Wild (Tom Edwards) on drums. Gass is still performing and has a terrific NYC based band called The Love Pirates. The Nothing also added Webster Smith on Keyboards at the same time as Phil Shoenfelt after Angel left in early January, 1980. The name The Nothing was changed to The Cyanide Sweeties so we could get a gig at Max's Kansas City, which we did! That band added Ed Rollin on Sax. and performed at FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology) and other venues. Phil Shoenfelt and I went on to play in Disturbed Furniture together and Phil switched to lead guitar.
The Nothing is: Trixz Sly - vocals; Bobby B. Wild - guitar; Phil Schoenfelt - bass; & Mickey Crash - drums."

  2. Mick Crash (Mick Oakleaf) drummer on this project here. I'm still playing in many bands and live in the East Village, NYC. Contact me on Facebook or at mick.oakleaf@gmail.com for further information. I appreciate the interest in The Nothing. I had been trying to arrange a reunion in the early 2000's but it was not to be, sadly. Here are some corrections/additions.
