Lead with the Bass

On the Eleventh day of Crazemas, Afro sez to me:
"Thanks for d' Mad Professor Dub series....by the way in the same Dub, can you post Lead With The Bass Vol 1 a compilation of British Dub acts of the last century?...or some of the Bradford DJ stuff by The Rootsman or The Disciples....All d' best and keep it truly Dub!"

Well, it was a Crazee time & I didn't get back to Afro for a few days. My JA files are scattered about in more chaos than most of my other messy mess, so it took a few days to locate Lead with the Bass files. Turns out I had three volumes so I'll share them here.

As to the rest of the request, I'm not sure I know what that is, other than maybe music from The Rootsman's Radio Bradford program. So Afro, if that's what you're looking for, let me know if you see this post. I might have a set from that show that featured The Disciples.

Going out to the Afro in the House...

    2. I don't see the decryption for Lead with the Bass I, II, or III. Is it somewhere in the posts that I'm not seeing or they are just not there at all?

    3. Thank you for letting me know. I have no idea where the decryption codes went. Hundreds have downloaded this so I know they were there. Guess some blogger gremlin ate them. Here they are again & sorry.

  3. Concerning The Rootsman I far prefer his oriental dub stuff Im not a fan of his dancehall stuff.Ive spoke to him about it in the early 2000 when he was touring Europe -because Im a big fan of dub fusion ( Dreadzone,Fun-Da- Mental,The Disciples Russ D,The Transglobal Underground,Mad professor,Zion Train,Centry, Alpha & Omega, On-U-Sound...) When I visited him in the early 90 s in Leeds ,he invited me at his radio pirate show of that era....So anything from the Rootsman oriental dub stuff is welcome- Into The Light, Out of The Darkness, 52 km To Timbuktu, or some of his cooperation with Russ D-The Disciples.....One more time thanks for making my day....

    2. Oh yes, you know my style. Those are all fantastic, if you come across is the Muslimgauze/Rootsman album Amahar is probably the most easily accessible and has some very strong music on it. However it is the Rootsman's remixes on Al-Aqsa Intifada that are my favorite of their collaborations. Again, thank you for the excellent shares. Hope others pick up on this stuff as it is just wonderful.

    3. NØ you know how to make your thing , so keep on spoiling me...The Rootsman any thing from him is always welcome....I ve played with a lesser known dub project called Kitachi (UK) in Rouen (France) some 25 years back and boat 2 of their albums ,I can t remember the names ive lost them in a venue where I played and since no way to find them...I ve tryed to search online in vain...maybe you may know them? Their name sound japanese but all of them are from England.....keep on rocking bro!!!!! The Rootsman is a real deal.

    4. Mooz, I've got 120+ Muslimgauze releases. Am a big fan of Bryn Jones & have shared Muslimgauze frequently. Bryn worked a great deal with The Rootsman, taking his stuff & remixing, as well as The Rootsman remixing Muslimgauze. All fantastic. Al-Aqsa Infitada remixes definitely top-shelf. I as well hope others see these comments & avail themselves to the things our dialogues have spawned.

Afro, glad to be a part of this great sharing process.

Kitachi was none other than Iration Steppas Dennis Rootical (Dennis Daley) & Mark Iration (Mark Millington) along with Jack Rubles. They released a couple of sets on Dope On Plastic label: the A Strong Unit 2xCD & Stay of Execution, A Strong Unit is more steeped in Dub/reggae with Stay of Execution being more breakbeat.

A Strong Unit 2xCD - the first CD is fifteen tracks, is the original A Strong Unit while the second CD is seven tracks & is Live in Hasselt, Belgium.

  10. Don't worry, MarkyD, this is a marathon, not a sprint. Take yer time, catch yer breath, we're in no hurry here. Light up a spliff & relax.

The Kitachi crew are from Leeds, & as Iration Steppas Sound System are the foundation of the West Yorkshire underground bass music scene. Mark Iration & Dennis Rootikal met in the early 1990’s & formed Kitachi 1n 1993, when sound system culture was changing & the music was evolving away from the Jah Shaka more politicized style to a much more universally broadened appeal. Their partnership led to the development of the most progressive style of reggae & Dub, which has inspired a generation of new Sound Systems & Dub producers. They called their style Dub in a Year 3000 style as it encompassed the past of Dub to the Future.
