4AD: The Best of 4

Ivo Watts-Russell moved to Los Angeles in the mid 90s resulting in the label being largely run from California for the rest of that decade. Ivo sold 4AD in the late 90s to give himself time to further his interests in book publishing. Since then his involvement in 4AD has mostly been on a consultancy level, for catalogue releases. Ivo currently lives near Santa Fe, New Mexico with his dogs.

Here are some of my picks from 4AD up until the exit of Ivo. Let’s start with one he's in...

Enjoy,

  3. Thanks again. Too bad there isn't a "coffee table" book (or is there?) of 4AD album art, giving history of the covers/pictures, etc.

    1. Don't know about a book, but there's a great movie about 23Envelope the 4AD covers on Chewtube that Frenz of NSS Diego share on the second The Hope Blister post.

      It's a great watch, & the reason I attempted this 4AD undertaking.

    1. Thanks for another share. Need a job that doesn't pay???

As per Shroudettes, to quote mortis36 “Shroudettes...something which is more of a collector's item than it is a listenable experience, given the production quality of it is pretty low.”

Dead Can Dance are top bongo, so don’t doubt the sentiment, but thanks for the share.

  5. After a bit of thinking, it came back to me that originally discovered This Mortal Coil at a small record shop Go Boy Records in Redondo Beach, CA where I was living at the time. It must have been 1986 or 87. I was paging through the cds and the cover art of Filligree caught my eye. I asked the proprietor about the recording and he said that I'd like it. So I bought it without having any idea, Through that cd I learned of Dead Can Dance and the Cocteau Twins as well. A great discovery and a great day

    1. Discovering new good music & artists is such a great feeling. Like love, I always remember the first time (that I heard that band or song or bought that unknown disc). Thanks for the memory share.
