VA: pt. 6 - One - Four A.D.

This series of four volumes began in 1994 as Waveforms A.D. (Ambient Dub) Compilations.

Waveform began in Sedona, AZ in 1993. It was the US outlet for the UK label Beyond. Beyond Records was a renowned UK label that released electronic & chill albums, many of which are highly sought-after today. Waveform is closely entwined with the radio & internet program Musical Starstreams. They refer to their style of music as "exotic electronica".

Might as well share all four, as they're right up my listening alley. The first one starts out with a track I've shared in April by Templeroy...

Various - One A.D. (Volume One Ambient Dub), Waveform Records 84101-2, 1994.

  2. Thanks mate. I try to be selective about the VA albums i add to my catalogue as, like you, i prefer coherent, single-artist collections that showcase one particular talent; however, i can make an exception for these ambient, trippy albums as they lend themselves much more to background, or contemplative mood settings. It doesn't harm things either that they often showcase well-known artists (e.g. Coldcut) doing something slightly different in the remix department. Oddly though, and in the main they seem to be populated by artists whom i never see outside of such collections, like Higher Intelligence Agency, who appear on 3 of the four offerings above. Do you know if they've done any albums?

    1. Because these types of tracks make for good "contemplative mood settings" as you so rightly state, the groups or individuals making them seem to pop up on many different comps. Some of them have little output outside the comps while others have extensive releases under their own names or in conjunction with other artists.

The Higher Intelligence Agency (Robert Bird) seems to have a bit of material available, You can check him out here:

      Thanks, Richie

    2. Nicely, Nate. I followed the trail as far as bandcamp. I might invest in a CD or two.
