Cold Sleep Sounds

Sleep Research Facility is a dark ambient project of Kevin Doherty, an artist from Glasgow, Scotland. SRF specialises in sleep-conducive beatless ambient music. The music usually contains no rhythmic elements, but instead relies on spacious, extended, richly-textured sounds.

This example of chilling (Ant)arctic ambient drone is in my opinion SRF's finest release. It just gets better with every listen as each time I notice new & different sound sensations.

  2. Utterly brilliant! Thanks a lot, Nate (also for taking care of Leyland Kirby's music).

  3. This looks fascinating, not least because it reminds me of Thomas Köner's work, who not only worked with long drones, but also released an album ('Nuuk') about the arctic, and used map references as track titles. I'm looking forward to this. Ta very much!

  4. Thanks, this is a great one I did not know. Reminds me of Teimo by Thomas Köner.

  6. Thanks Richie & Richard for turning me on to this great Dark ambient soundscape artist that I didn’t know before. Now I’ll do the same for any of our visitors not familiar.

  7. Thank you very much! SRF's album Nostromo (2001) is quite good, especially if you're a fan of the film Alien, it's basically haunted spaceship ambience, possibly made with samples from the film's background foley.
Thanks also for the Köner, I was only familiar with his album Permafrost.
    Great blog! :0)
