I've shared The Caretaker & his various projects here in the past, several under his birth name Leyland James Kirby. This is just to show that Ambient can be dark, creating a shadowy claustrophobic sonic environment, an eerily haunting mood. Here's a trilogy from LJK (not to be confused with LKJ)...

Leyland Kirby has been a firm favourite here at Leafy Glades ever since his earlier career as a noise merchant under the Vvm rubrik. I absolutely loved his massive 'Theoretically Pure Anterograde Amnesia' set and there'll always be a place for his haunted, haunting melodies in my heart. Somehow, i didn't have 'When We Parted...' or 'Memories Live Longer...' so it'll be a treat to listen to these. Gracias, amigo.
ReplyDeleteThe perfect book-ends to Sadly. Should make for some sweetly haunted listening. Glad I could provide these. A Decambier X-ambias gift to you.
DeleteA most excellent post! Thank you for highlighting his works under his name. I've been a rabid fan since his days posting as the noisy prankster V/VM. I remember his 365 project on Brainwashed.com where he composed and posted a track every day for a full year, most were quite good and well developed.
ReplyDeleteIf anyone is interested in more of his works, this link still has dozens of active links, despite the last update from the author in 2016.

Thanks for the kind words, but mainly for the link. I'll be checking it out as soon as I finish here. Happy holly daze, my friend.
DeleteWhat a great link! I found a lot of Leyland Kirby i didn't have, plus quite a few other intriguing releases. Thanks very much, Mooz.
DeleteYou're welcome. That's one site I keep going back to as I get introduced to new dark ambient artists. I'm impressed that most of the links are still active, plus great write ups on each post. Glad you are enjoying it too.
DeleteThanks NØ. My father-in-law is visiting tomorrow. He has dementia and I was wondering what I could play in the background! These are perfect (along with the new Gazelle Twin OST). Conversations with those who suffer from this terrible disease are usually repetitive and dreary. You've given me the antidote!

Hey, MarkyD. Glad I could provide a bit of atmospheric sound for your time with your father-in-law. Ambient is perfect for those with attention issues as it is fantastic background soundtrack to life. Take care & best of luck with your visit. You're doing a good thing, my friend.
