Thought I'd wish everyone Feliz Año Nuevo! with the following gem.

Formerly the Lightspeed Champion, Blood Orange is the stage name of Devonté Hynes, a British singer, composer, songwriter, producer, & author from London, England based now in New York City. There Will Come a Time...

This wasn't going to be one of my December posts but I feel compelled to share it. I used to listen to Orbital in the early 90s, then it seemed like for years that the only thing they put out were remixes or reworkings or live versions of their material. I guess I just kinda stopped listening. I'd listen to Orbital (Speed Freak album) or Orbital (Lush album) or Snivilisation when ever I came across the CDs as I was looking for something else, but never often enough to keep them in the forefront of my mind.

With this release (as well as this year's Optical Delusion) they seem to be right back in stride, making some incredible music. Been listening to this one heavily lately & just felt like sharing.

A holi-daze spirited Frenz of NSS left a link in the comments to an album that should exist from the late Andrew Weatherall & the Sabres of Paradise. - Haunted Dancehall Addendum. I previously shared Haunted Dancehall here. That & the spate of all things Weatherall-related lately apparently inspired this wonderful soul to create this excellent collection. The hosting site where this gem is housed is only keeping it active for seven days. I felt that was too great a loss to music lovers everywhere. I therefore downloaded the offering, re-uploaded it to a more permanent home, & am sharing it here.

I created a cover artwork & added a .doc file with source listings..

Here for your aural edification with a huge THANK YOU! to our anonymous friend.

The First Dub of Crazemas

For true Rastafarians, Christmas is called Ganna (or Genna). It is celebrated on January 7th which is the 29th day of the month of Tahsas on the Ethiopia calendar. Belivers in Ras Tafari fast from Tsome Nebiyat (Fast of the Prophets) November 25 our calendar through to January 7th, eating only one Vegan meal per day. As Ganna is a very religious occasion in Ethiopia, Rastas attend mass on Christmas Eve (January 6th), known as the Gahad of Christmas.

Since Neil Joseph Stephen Fraser, the Mad Professor, was born in Georgetown, Guyana & has lived in England since he was 13 & is not a Rastafarian, I am going to use his music as a run-up to our western version of the holiday. I always try to give something special to our Frenz here at NSS this time of year.

So for the Twelve Days of Crazemas...Mad Professor gives to you...Dub Me Crazy in all it glory. Today we start with the original Dub Me Crazy!! from 1982.

January 31, 2020, shortly before Anrew Weatheral died, his record label Rotters Golf Club began releasing a series of downloadable Woodleigh Research Facility -  Facility 4 sets. They released one a month after that with the last (A Walk with Bob & Bill, Vol. 4) coming on December 25th, 2020.

Rotters Golf Club was an electro record label set up by Andrew in 2001. The label was mainly 12" single-orientated, with most releases actually by Two Lone Swordsmen (Weatherall & Keith Tenniswood aka Radioactive Man) under various guises.

For the 12 Daze of Xmas I'll also be sharing all of the 2020 Facility 4 releases...

WeatherWalsh End in Nardan, WA.

The mysterious Woodleigh Research Facility is located in a bunker in Tooting named Facility 4. It is a fully equipped recording studio with a plethora of musical instruments & a Podenco dog named Binky. It was the hide-away of DJ & producer Andrew Weatherall before his 2020 passing along with musician & producer Nina Walsh, who continues on these days as Facility 5.

Andrew Weatherall's great body of work has been heavy in my rotation lately. I have shared several of his many resleases here at NSS. Last month I shared The Asphodells - Ruled by Passion, Destroyed by Lust. Many of the Frenz of this here dump have been wanting more Weatherall. I am wanting to share more. Here's the first Woodleigh Research Facility full-length.

Included with The Phoenix Suburb is a 19 page article from Electronic Sounds, Issue 107, November 2023 in .pdf format.

Here's just a short excerpt from the article:

"Weatheral...began work on what...she (Nina) described as 'a very old loop programme' running on 'an antiquated computer system' bought on eBay for £30."

"He was relegated to a back room with no windows," she says. "He'd be getting a groove going with beats, sitting in a cloud of smoke. As soon as his ears had settled on a fixed key & bpm, I'd start creating the additonal parts - loops, melodies, harmonies, & so on. He'd ask for something specific - 'It needs this, it needs that' he’d say - Which I would duly deliver on a flash drive and load into his working library"

January 31, 2020, shortly before Weatheral died from a pulmonary embolism on February 17, 2020 his record label Rotters Golf Club began releasing a series of downloadable Facility 4 sets. At depth. They released one a month after that with the last (The Woodleigh Research Facility - Facility 4: A Walk with Bob & Bill, Vol. 4, RGC027DL) coming on December 25th.

Rotters Golf Club was an electro record label set up by Andrew in 2001. The label was mainly 12" single-orientated, with most releases actually by Two Lone Swordsmen (Weatherall & Keith Tenniswood aka Radioactive Man) under various guises.

I had already planned the 12 Days of Holi-daze (which starts Wednesday) when I thought what a great idea to share one Facility 4 recording each day of the 12. Since I had already put many hours into my original plan & completed it & deemed it ready, I could hardly just drop it & go with these. So I'll be giving you both items each day. Facility 4 & Mad Professor's 12 Dubs of Crazemas. You all deserve it, from me to you with love for your finest holi-daze.

Enjoy the wintery Weather all,

Musick that Needs Work - M: Who Serves Jell-o on Plates?

This is the last of Musick that Needs Work - M. After this, on to other crimes against nature.

Moving Gelatine Plates was a French progressive rock / fusion band from the early 1970s. They were strongly influenced by Canterbury bands like Soft Machine & Caravan. After a while they shortened their name to Moving before releasing their third album. After that they went on hiatus until reforming in 2006 & released a new album Removing.

This is the 1994 CD reissue of the 1972 which includes the original album (tracks 1-6) & also their follow-up 1980s Moving (tracks 7-12).

Musick that Needs Work - M: Put a Plug in It

Michael Milosh, known professionally as Milosh is a Canadian electronic musician from Toronto, who is currently based in Los Angeles, California.

Discogs lists the genres of his music as: Leftfield, RnB/Swing, IDM, & Downtempo. That seems a big enough carpet to sweep his music under if you're a genre person. I could easily see leftfield downtempo or IDM/RnB/Swing, so don’t ask me. I just listen & then nod my head...yes or no.

This version has an untitled track 10 not listed.

Music that Needs Work - M: Madonna, Tron, & Child

Crawling up from the putrid miasma wafting off the Thames, Madonnatron foist their Stooges/ early Joy Division hybrid blend of post-punk onto the unsuspecting masses. They formed after a rowdy night drinking at the Shacklewell Arms pub. They could barely play their instruments. Their original frontperson left while they were recording their debut album at Trashmouth Studios, yet here they are again with one of 2019s top releases.

Playing hypnotic, darkly feminist psychedelic witch prog, here Madonnatron is: Stefania Cardenas; Charlie (Charlotte) Aggett; Joanie Myburgh, & Beth (?).

Music that Needs Work - M: In the Palmer His Hand

Michael 'Palma Dog' Palmer is a Jamaican dancehall singer. He was one of the most popular singers of the early & mid 80s in Jamaica. This is his debut from 1983 produced by Jah Thomas.

Palmer stepped away from music in the mid 90s because of vocal health issues. Luckily for him & the reggae world, his voice has mended after nearly 20 years. He has teamed up with Barrington Gray & Cedar Valley Records of Sweden to release 2018s Where is That Love with renowned producer/engineer Andre 'Tripple T' Daley who produced many of the Exterminator label's greatest mixes.
