To All: I'll be gone for a while, be back as soon I as can.
Yesterday I witnessed the collapse of my future.
Being a person who tries to Be in the Here & Now, it was very disturbing.
My wife & I are both dependent on Social Security & Medicaire for our livelihood & health. What is coming our way does not bode well for either of us.
I will sort this out as soon as I can but right now, this blog has moved from funtime priority to the back burner.
I'm walking around in a disassociative fugue state right now. I'll try to find my way back a.s.a.p.
Thank you all.
Update: To everyone who has commented here, thank you for your overwhelming outpouring of kindness & thoughtfulness. I feel I have let you all down by not plunging forward with some encouragement & unplifting shares. In the wake of events I just can't seem to carry on with business as usual. Your words have really helped so I'm asking for some more help. If you could list the music that is helping you cope, that is lightening your crush of grief, perhaps you would let me know & I'll try to get my shit together enough to share some of your recommendations.
Thank you all again
I wish you all the best and can say that we are not suffering alone in this. I want to keep my normal positivity, though the events recently make that quite a challenge. Hoping things work out for you and your wife.
ReplyDeleteI just see the future under the Trump regime & as Zardoz sez: It does not work. Not for me.
DeleteTake care of yourself No
ReplyDeleteTrying my best but failing miserably.
DeleteI am so sorry to hear about your state of affairs. My wife and I have been experiencing some similar issues. I hope and pray that everything will work itself out for the best for us both in the near future. in the meantime, I WANT TO SINCERELY THANK YOU FOR THIS WONDERFUL BLOG! IT IS OUR FAVORITE AND YOU HAVE VERY MUCH CHANGED OUR LIVES FOR THE BETTER IN SO MANY WAYS. I hope that all will quickly improve for you and yours. If there is anything we can do to help, please let us know! You have been a great inspiration for us both and we wanted to let you know how much your generous sharing has meant for us. thank you, and always the very best of wishes!
ReplyDeleteDOCTOR ART and KOREGODDESS
You're wonderful comment is the first thing that penetrated the evil cloud hanging over my day. Thank you & the Goddess so very much.
DeleteThanks to everyone. The results of yesterday's election has just put me into a dark, dark place. Kamala said this election was about saving democracy. Obviously the deluded mass e fine with throwing democracy away & handing the reigns to a meglomaniacal Hitler wannabe.
ReplyDeleteHello NØ, I want to thank you for being a bright spot in my life. I share your grief that the electorate does not value human rights and justice. Please take care of yourself and your wife, my friend! Practice radical self care and love each other.
ReplyDeleteThanks Charlie. Will practice the self-care & the love my wife & I share is my only true salvation. Your words mean so much, as I realize that the folks that hang around this dump are of a like mind.
DeleteI appreciate the personal note you sent. I will be in touch. I dowloaded the music you shared will be listening to it shortly, hoping it has the magic of musick to soothe my savage(d) breast.
We survived the last go round, he may not be the resolve wanted but I believe in my heart that things will work out x
ReplyDeleteAgain, thank you very much, Rob.
DeleteI admire your positivity. I am beyond pessimistic as to what lies ahead.
DeleteGrief is the word for it. Grieving the loss of the hope that we shared for a more compassionate and equitable future. It's going to take awhile for our hearts and spirits to adjust. LEARNING TO COPE WITH AVARICE.
ReplyDeleteNone of us can see the future with any certainty. We couldn't even predict on Monday what would happen Tuesday. Things do seem awful cold. But you and your wife and daughter have weathered tough times before, and maybe the love and kindness that we show ourselves and each other will be enough to make it through another round of the vanity, bluster and incompetence that we endured during his first term in office.
Myself, I fear that this term will be a much bleaker reality. Hope is your name, but mine has been dashed.
DeleteOver here everybody has been looking at the US elections anxiously, and everyone I talk to is really shocked by the results. But, of course, that's nothing compared to the situation for people living in the US. It's just so hard to understand why people choose to elect someone who doesn't seem to care much about democracy. It seems as if they want to get rid of democracy after all ...
ReplyDeleteI feel very sorry for your situation and I wish you all the best. Your blog has been a constant source for inspiration for me and from what I get from the comments, other people feel the same. So, if there's anything we can do for you ...? Hope you'll feel better soon. Thinking of you. Best wishes from Munich
Not to rub salt in painful wounds, but this is exactly how the Third Reich started in your country's past.
DeleteAnd back then, there were plenty of people who said that things weren't going to be so bad after all ...
DeleteI know it's hard to be optimistic and maybe naive. Trying to be optimistic anyway.
I believe my naivete has worn quite thin over the many years I've been around. Trying to find something to be optimistic about but am having a hard time. Each passing days does numb the throbbing pain but temptiness fails to fill.
DeleteNØ ,you & wife let d Almighty help u to get out of this hardship as soon as possible.Recover well my brother.
ReplyDeleteAh nooooo! I read your blog before I brush my teeth in the morning. So sorry Donald Hitler has upturned your life. Best of luck and looking forward to convene soon.
ReplyDeleteSending love NØ.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes take care of yourself. There's plenty of folk in shock over this side of the pond.
ReplyDeleteJust to say hang in there and look after you and yours x
ReplyDeleteI feel quite powerless to protect my family from an inevitable horrible fate. Thanks to everyone who has offered words of encouragement. I'm still in the Trump Dump but your words surely help.

Thanks once more, Rob. You are the blog for now. Everyone will just have to share your offerings for the time.
DeleteI too am numbed at the moment, and I am fearful of what may come. I am ditching my social media and catching up on my stacks of books to read and piles of music files to listen to. Getting out in Nature while I still can. You have brought me such a wealth here at NNS (or NSS?) and I will be forever grateful. Take care of yourself first.
ReplyDeleteThanks SPB, What music is helping? I need direction.
DeleteI feel like I am the acolyte speaking to the master. But I have been raking leaves (the old-fashioned way, with a rake, because I hate blowers) and listening to whatever shuffles up. Like in life, I guess. Khruangbin has been refreshing, but I also appreciate Pat Fish (may light perpetual shine upon him) and his Jazz Butcher's "The Highest in the Land" and Vic Chesnutt (light perpetual also) and his "West of Rome" album. And Selecter's "Celebrate the Bullet." When I feel I must choose to rock out (as I tell my wife), my favorite go-tos are Joe Strummer "US North"; Big Dipper "Ron Klaus Wrecked His House"'; Stetsasonic "Talking All That Jazz"'; The Buzzcocks "Why Can't I Touch It"; Todd Rundgren "Stood Up"; Malcolm McClaren "Double Dutch"; and Jonathan Richman "Roadrunner (Twice)." Thank goodness we still have music. Please take care of yourself; and remember that we are all in this together.
DeleteThanks SPB, the list of musick you've suggested gives me lots of possibilities that I haven't tried. Had my player on shuffle but found myself continually forwarding to the next song, the next song, the next song, because nothing clicked. I'm gonna try all of your suggestions 'til I find something.
DeleteThank you, Stately Plump Buck, for reminding me of Pat Fish whom I met quite a few times and liked a lot. I was very sad to hear of his passing. It was simular with Vic Chesnutt. I haven't listened to their music for quite some time, but it is nice to think of them now.
DeletePity The Nation
ReplyDeleteBy Lawrence Ferlinghetti
Pity the nation whose people are sheep,
and whose shepherds mislead them.
Pity the nation whose leaders are liars, whose sages are silenced
and whose bigots haunt the airwaves.
Pity the nation that raises not its voice,
except to praise conquerors and acclaim the bully as hero
and aims to rule the world with force and by torture.
Pity the nation what knows no other language but its own
and no other culture but its own.
Pity the nation whose breath is money
and sleeps the sleep of the too well fed.
Pity the nation - or, pity the people who allow their rights to erode
and their freedoms to be washed away.
My country, tears of thee, sweet land of liberty.
Look after you and yours. I don't comment on this blog often but you are very much appreciated.
ReplyDeleteI hope you can soon find a way forward. We'll still be here when the dust settles and until then, take care.
Best of luck to you and yours, NØ. I guess we'll all feel the brunt sooner or later, but you're getting it now. My thoughts are with you. Take care. You ask about helpful music? Today i bought the vinyl version of Neutral Milk Hotel's 'In The Aeroplane Over The Sea'. That helps me. Lovely album.
ReplyDeleteMaybe something in this archive will be to someones taste & lift some spirits, take a poke around: https://archive.org/details/a_20230302
ReplyDeleteThanks Rob, that is a hell of a list, folks, if you need a crumb of musical comfort I suggest you take a look. Many thanks. Be well people.
DeleteBest of luck to you all. You said it very well. This blog, and our fun is not a priority. You're health and well-being is.
ReplyDeleteAgain, many thanks to you, Rob. In terms of providing me with music you are almost rivalling Nate (well, not quite ...).
ReplyDeleteSince you have been asking, Nate: Yesterday I kept listening to Muslimgauze and then put on Zoviet France. Just the perfect mixture of bleak atmosphere, a bit of aggression and a tiny bit of hope ...
Haven't tried Zoviet France yet. Have plenty so I'll put them on rando & see if something clicks. Thanks, brother.

As much as I try, nothing is hitting the right spot. Over the past couple days, I've turned to the stuff that got me through Reagan (DKs, MDC, KMFDM, Ministry) and while it comes closest to helping me reclaim some of that ol' fightin' spirit, the situation is more dire than the '80s and I'm not as young as I used to was. The new Cure album with its focus on endings and the past slipping away has spoken to me, and there's some solace in hearing a kindred spirit express emotions you're feeling, but it's not enough. I guess what I'm saying is the stuff that immediately yells "listen to me!" is more direct in its content. Under stress and depression, my brain doesn't have the bandwidth for deciphering anything and I lean toward stuff that explicitly says what I lack the capacity for putting into words, but I've yet to find something to settle my soul. I honestly doubt anything will, yet I keep trying. And maybe that's the only way through.
ReplyDeleteThank you for this comment. If you were listening to DKs & MDC to make it through the Reagan years, then we must be about the same age (& "not as young as I used to was"). You have so clearly expressed exactly how I am feeling. I start to listen to something but find myself losing attention quickly & looking for something else, with the repeating results. Just that fact that other are experiencing the same things weirdly makes it seem easier to deal with, as I have been in a doom cloud & thinking it was only me & I must be going mad.
DeleteI have not listened to The Cure in years but will give their new one a listen & see what it does. Thanks.
So many of us in the same boat, searching for something that will help make sense of *gestures all around*. Something to assuage the pain, to shine a light from the other end of the tunnel. It's not just you, and it's not just me. We're all stumbling in the dark right now, reaching for anything to assist. These lyrics keep coming to mind, and they don't exactly comfort, and they might not actually be *relevant*, but they keep coming nonetheless.
DeleteMan is an obstacle, sad as the clown (oh, by jingo)
So hold on to nothing, and he won't let you down (oh, by jingo)
Some people are marching together, and some on their own
Quite alone.
Others are running; the smaller ones crawl
But some sit in silence -- they're just older children
That's all.
After all
I sing with impertinence, shading impermanent chords
With my words
I've borrowed your time and I'm sorry I called
But the thought just occurred
We're nobody's children
At all
After all
Mr. Bowie is always welcome to me & even in his bleakest...
Delete(Blackstar:
"How many times does an angel fall?
How many people lie instead of talking tall?
He trod on sacred ground, he cried loud into the crowd
(I'm a blackstar, I'm a blackstar)"
He seems able to touch that humanity within us, oh by jingo. Thanks for the comment & sharing the lyrics.
Hard to asess from here how things may evolve ut really wishing the best with my heart.
ReplyDeleteWe both survived horrible governements and it seems that relief will never arrive
in the shape of someone reasonable.
They'll have a hard time getting rid of us.

We must hang tough, I know. I just always believed that humanity was smarter & more compassionate. I guess the selfless must hang together as the selfish run amok.
DeleteThanks for the words, dear friend.
Everything will be fine. With all respect, you seem to be thoroughly brainwashed by the scare tactics of the media. Don't take my word for it, but at least use some spare time to read about media bias, and the various groups that are influencing world governments. (Two separate issues.) Do you think the unrest in much of Europe and the similar problems in the U.S. are a coincidence? All the best to you and your family.
ReplyDeleteUnlike the Cult of Magatts, I am not brainwashed by anyone, let alone a meglomanical maniac. As the "deportation trains" rolled out of cities of Germany, or from Warsaw, or from Prague, filled with Jewish citizens headed for the death camps, "good folks" like yourself looked the other way.
DeleteI do not think the unrest in much of Europe & the Us are a coincidence. They are the direct result of hatred spewed by the likes of Donald Trump & his ilk.
& yet I wish the best for you & yours as well, as we are all in this shit hole together. However, I do believe that collaborators & ideologue rationalist like yourself will have an easier time than those of us who hold the line on the theft of our freedoms.
Everything will definitely NOT be fine.
I feel you brother. I feared our convicted felon, narcissistic, authoritarian, reality show reject of an ex-president might squeak a victory out of the electoral college, but win the popular vote?!? What a depressing wake-up call. His supporters truly believe he is unfairly persecuted and has their and the nation's best interests at heart. It's like pissing up a rope to argue otherwise. Less than a third of Americans believe they can trust traditional media so they get all their "facts" from social media and podcasts. Joe Rogan has more followers than all the media combined by a large margin. A commenter on another music blog criticized the poster for advocating for Harris and believes that Trump is saving the nation from a corporate takeover (despite his tax and deregulation policies clearly favoring corporations and the wealthy). The majority of other commenters agreed with the criticism. You'd think that witnessing people storming the capital, killing police, smearing shit on the walls, and seeking to execute elected representatives would be enough to illustrate the danger Trump represents to Democracy but no ... most Americans think he was the the best candidate. It's just completely surreal that consensual reality is that the rest of us are the ones who are delusional and uninformed. Sigh ... All I can say is that I'm slightly relieved to see that the commenters in this corner of the blogosphere aren't telling you to "get over yourself" like they are elsewhere. Thanks for keeping on! In solidarity, MrDave.
ReplyDeleteThis means the world to me, MrDave. Your message is totally on point. As you have said before, this is a back-water blog. Most of the denizens who find their way here are relatively like minded. Partly why I was so set aback, but mainly why I am trying to plunge forward.
DeleteThanks MrDave, well put!
DeleteThat's a "plus one" for Mr Dave's comments from another Mister Dave.
DeleteI've only just seen this post and want to wish you all the best NØ. Do ask for help from your fans here if you need anything. Don't hold back. It seems to me (viewing from Europe) that Americans were / are between a rock (a wannabe fascist) and a hard place (genocidal pro-Zionists). A Green / independent vote was the obvious choice but that was never going to make up the numbers. Maybe when climate change REALLY kicks in ... Let's see.
