On any post, if the link is no longer good, leave a comment if you want the music re-uploaded. As long as I still have the file, or the record, cd, or cassette to re-rip, I will gladly accommodate in a timely manner all such requests.

From the Backseat - Fems of Feb. redux

Before I continue on with March madness, I have some left-over material from last month.

The Fems of Feb. Redux

I ran out of days in February for all the womym artists that I wanted to feature. Also a friend of NSS was prompted by a February post to request other postings, so I'm going to finish up that before moving on. It'll be the perfect time for a little breather after the abundance of Dub. It'll give everyone a chance to get caught up.

I knew there were way more great woymn artists than I would have time for in February. I tried to trim it down to ones I felt I hadn't really covered too much (except I snuck in a few of my personal favorites like Carla B & Shara N). I had a trio more that I needed to include.

I've been a big fan of  Siobhan de Maré since her time in Mono. I've covered her time with Robin Guthrie in Violet Indiana quite extensively. I am going to post up Formica Blues from the Mono days & her latest as Swoone with Gary Bruce.

Mono - Formica Blues, Universal Records UMD 80408, 1997.

Greensleeves Records VPGSCD7012, 2014.

Volume 8 - This final set includes two previously unreleased albums: Two Friends Crew's Voyage into Dub & Shane Brown's Juke Boxx Dub. The former is a collection of late 80s/early 90s version sides from the Two Friends label, a label run by Mikey Bennett & Patrick Lindsay, two producers/engineers that at the time worked closely with Augustus 'Gussie' Clarke.

Shane Brown is a Jamaican producer/engineer probably best known for his recent work for Busy Signal & Etana.

The other two sets are Prince Jammy's Computerised Dub, a novelty effort that gives a Dubwise/instrumental treatment to some mid 80s early digital gems & Alborosie's Dub Clash, a set originally released in 2010 on which Puppa Albo Dubs some of his best.

Continuing on with our stroll through the history of Dub.

The Revolutionaries - Evolution of Dub Volume 3: The Descent of Version,
Greensleeves Records GRE2027, 2009.

Volume 3 - This third 4CD set spotlights more key moments in the evolution of Dub. Dub began as aural reworkings of existing Reggae recordings & became a genre unto itself. Dub has become more than just a remix project: it has become a musical journey that has no limitations. These 4 CDs were produced by Linval Thompson & Jah Lloyd, mixed by Tubby, Jammy, & Crucial Bunny.

The great thing about this volume is that Errol Thompson is all over it, regardless of the changing personnel within the Professionals who were the house band for Joe Gibbs' studio. Errol was involved in the production, arrangement, engineering, & mixing. The result is that these Dubs have his trademark depth of sound.

(r)Evolution of Dub is a Fiesta for Dub-heads

In March, my only theme is going to be pleasuring myself. Stay around if your not a prude. I will wash my hands on occasion.

I've stated before that I like to start off each new month with some musick from down Jamaica way. Since this month is all about pleasing myself, I'm doing just that.

I plucked the title of this post from Reggaemani, one of the handbooks of JA musick.

Greensleeves Records' Evolution of Dub series had over a number of years put the spotlight on key moments in the development of Dub. I am going to be posting two Volumes (4 CD sets each) on each of the next four posts. For all you ''Dub-heads'' out there, these are for you if you don't have. I'm not sure how long they'll stay up, so grab 'em while you can. & as always, enjoy.

Volume 1 - 2009 four CD release, the first in a series of box sets spotlighting key moments in the evolution of Dub. This set focuses on the roots of Dub bringing together many of the main players from Dub's big bang moments. Joe Gibbs' Serial Dub from 1973 is one of the true foundation stones of Dub, recorded at Randy's with Errol Thompson at the controls. The next three are crucial Dub box sets from King Tubby: Dub from the Roots (1974) & the Roots of Dub (1975), produced by Bunny Lee; & Dubbing with the Observer with Niney at the controls..

The third is shared between the Revolutionaries & the Aggrovators. Then the box is rounded off with the knock-off blow of Niney 'the Observer's album Sledgehammer Dub.
