Since I claimed Jah Shaka, Dub Warrior, as the father of modern UK Sound System culture, I would be remiss to overlook his son & heir, Young Warrior.
Young Warrior is known far & wide as the Prince of Dub Sound Systems. He is one of the cornerstones of the next generation UK Dub reggae. Young Warrior has worked as a producer for many years now working with the likes of Jah Shaka, Gussie P, Mafia & Fluxy, Ras Muffet, many more. His productions have been played by Sound Systems across the UK. In 2011 after many years of demand Young Warrior built & launched his very own Sound System at Dubwise Festival 2011 alongside King Alpha Sound System at the Brixton Mass music venue in London.
Since launching his Sound System he has played alongside many big well known Sounds such as Iration Steppas, Jah Tubby's, Jah Youth, Channel One, King Shiloh & many more. One of his Sound System finests moments was launching Birmingham's biggest premier Dub Sound System event, OneDub at the Rainbow Warehouse.
The Young Warrior's sets combines the very new with old skool Sound playing Dub, Roots & culture from the 70s to the very present in the traditional Shaka Warrior-style, connecting with the Elders who attend Shaka dances as well as with the young, the new generation so all can feel his personal, uplifting musical message, always fighting for human rights against racism.
Young Warrior's Sound System was stolen in 2021. The independent musician & Sound System engineer's van & sound equipment was stolen from outside his home in the Catford area just before 2pm on Monday March 8. A GoFundme has raised £15,380 toward the £20k the System cost. If you feel like helping out, go here.
After the theft, Young Warrior sez:
"Just as we were about to enter a road of recovery out of (COVID) lockdown for live events to restart I cannot believe that this has happened."
Here's a 7" single he dropped on Jah Shaka Music about the same time...

Thanks NØ! I'm unfamiliar with Young Warrior, so this is a treat!
ReplyDeleteTrying to fill some huge shoes of his great father, carrying on the tradition. Couldn't have had a better mentor.
