On any post, if the link is no longer good, leave a comment if you want the music re-uploaded. As long as I still have the file, or the record, cd, or cassette to re-rip, I will gladly accommodate in a timely manner all such requests.

VA: pt 5 - A Drink for Sue Ellen

This one appears to be a bootleg of a bootleg of US hardcore tracks, originally released in Germany by Schrott SCHROTT010, 1983. This is a Volume 1 cassette version of 24 tracks.

This one is a perfect example of my inability to stick with compilations. I'd hear Gun Club - "Black Train" & immediately I'd be looking for the album (Fire of Love) it was on . Then I'd listen to that all the way through.

But single tracks & random play are all the rage, so, what do I know???

  2. Interesting choices. Heavy on the California bands, with some that predated hardcore or had little to do with it (e.g., Gun Club, Replacements and Plugz). Even the DK's track is from before they went hardcore.

Teenage me would definitely enjoy this! Looking at it today, I would guess that it was assembled by someone who was viewing the scene from afar (Germany) and who had a fantastic record collection! Maybe someone who also recognized that too much hardcore can get monotonous, and decided to add some variety.

    1. I said hardcore for lack of thinking of a better term (punk, early 80s, So-Cal). There is actuallya bit of variety here as you pointed out. Perhaps intentional or pehaps just what they had to boot. Thanks for the comment, brother jon.

    2. It says "USA Hardcore Hits" on the cover, so it wasn't your lack of a better term!

    3. Yeah, I just took the easy route & called it what they called it (I did substitute "tracks" for "hits", being a bit more judgemental I guess). Thanks, brother.
