While I was working on all things Andrew Weatherall, I of course came across Sean Johnston, the UK DJ, cofounder of the tremendously popular A Love From Outer Space (ALFOS) parties / music collective along with Weatherall.
I guess that's how I ended up with this 'murky' collection of music from the Hardway Bros. (Johnston teamed up with Jake Davies & the mysterious "Rico" [rumored to be AW himself] primarily). This is all a bunch of wobbly downtempo dance jams. Hardway Bros were mostly responsible for a trunkload of 12"s.
Sean sez:
"Hello – we are the Hardway Brothers. We like to muck around with sound. Once we were House, then we were Balearic, then we were Techno. We fought the Acid House Wars and lost. We made records. We rested. Now we work again…"
I'll start out with a single track full-length set...

A Love From Outer Space (We Are One)
On A/B Music we find the whole gamut of Hardway Bros. styles, with hints of Industrial, techno, post-punk. All the elements float in & out, around each other like a confluence of different coloured smokes, set at a leisurely pace of 111 BPM, slow dance music for the discerning listener...party music at a mature tempo.

These are compilations put together by LTJ & don’t really have much of his own music.
I have other items by the man himself if you are interested in any. Just let me know what you’re interested in & I’ll see what I can do, or just take a chance on my bad taste if you can’t decide for yourself.
This is really really nice from you NØ, thank you very much!!!
DeleteI found this with also: https://archive.org/search?query=subject%3A%22Good%20Looking%20records%22
I enjoy this type of sound quite much at the moment... Am I getting nostalgic?
Thank you again! Keep up the great work!
P.S.: is there any way to support your blog, donation or so? I'd be happy to contribute.
All the good for you!
Matthieu
Thanks for the comment, Matthieu. The archive.org link has quite a few good LTJ Bukem releases & other great stuff from Good Looking. There are a bunch of live sets near the bottom by Mr Fredricks(?) that I'm going to check out.
DeleteAs far as supporting this blog, just keep stopping by & listening to music I share & once in a while leave a comment like today. That's the kind of support I need the most. Thanks so much for your offer.
All good to you as well.
Thank you..
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome, BobFace.
DeleteA complete unknown to me.
ReplyDeleteThe phrase "a confluence of different coloured smokes" convinced me to download the whole kit 'n' kaboodle, and I'm a better (and more mature-tempo'd) person for it. Thunderous applause!
I hear the thunder rumbling over the hilltop behind my house right now. Thanks, PW. Glad you found something new to you that clicked. "More mature-tempo'd" has me still chuckling.
