As a prelude to the Overflow February's Dub & Dub Adjacent shares, I'm slipping you all a bit more Holy Tongue. On this one they teamed up with Berlin-based British Dub techno producer Sam Shackleton.
The union came about after they all shared a festival lineup in Sweden. Holy Tongue, the trio of Valentina Magaletti, Al Wootton, & Susumu Mukai had initially wanted Shackleton to remix one of their existing tracks, but they ultimately settled on working on a whole new project. & what a project it proved to be. Shackleton's usual elegant signature sounds are all still here, the hurky-jerky tape stops, spiralling tubullar bells, Sound System bass heaviness, but never once overwhelming Holy Tongue's core energy.

Wonderful - thanks a lot!
ReplyDeleteAlways a pleasure to share one with you.
DeleteI'm currently rereading Tom Robbins' 'Fierce Invalids Home From Hot Climates', which i only mention because The Tumbling Psychic Joy Of Now could have been lifted from any of his novels. One more album for the groovy melting pot of periodic, rhapsodic re-education? Here's hoping so! Cheers mate.
ReplyDeleteTom Robbins is one of my favorite authors. Tumbling Psychic Joy could easily be one of his works I just finished re-reading Half Asleep in Frog Pajamas. Enjoy the fresh tongue.
ReplyDeleteThis is probably my favorite of Holy Tongue's work. Thanks for highlighting this one as well.
ReplyDeleteMy pleasure, my friend. Miss your missives, hope you are doing well. I think of you often & check your place weekly for any news. Any news?
