On any post, if the link is no longer good, leave a comment if you want the music re-uploaded. As long as I still have the file, or the record, cd, or cassette to re-rip, I will gladly accommodate in a timely manner all such requests.

Musick that Needed Work - R: Radar Bros.

Radar Bros. are an indie/slow-core/lo-fi/psych/rock band from Los Angeles, CA. They are focused around the music of founder Jim Putnam.

The band has toured with Modest Mouse, The Breeders, Teenage Fanclub, & Overseas, among others. Over the years, their sound has evolved from slower, melodic rock with swashes of Floyd/Beatles-esque psychedelia to the heavier, multi-layered surrealism that characterizes their recent output.

This is their first, self-titled CD.

Cheers mate. You've piqued my interest with saying their later work is suffused with "heavier, multi-layered surrealism". Could you post some of that sometime?

    1. Didn’t mean to over-sell the bands sound. It has grown over time. They are one of the progenitors of LA’s bombastic post-shoegaze folk-pop. Here’s a newer entry, but still with much of the same members as the self-titled. For the tour promoting this album Radar Bros. added several new members (Be Hussey - bass & Stevie Treichel - drums) who have become core members of the curent line-up. Listen & decide what you think.

  3. Excellent album by an outstanding band. The songwriting is superb, the arrangements are extremely tasteful. And even though in recent years I've been losing interest in good old indie songs, Radar Bros. are one of those bands I keep going back to.

    1. What a surprise, my friend. Never would have pegged you for a Radar Bros. fan. Learning new things all the time. Thanks.

    2. Well, it's a good thing if it's still possible to surprise you! Until a couple of years ago, that was exactly my kind of music. But then, gradually, I was losing interest in nice songs. Wanted to feel challenged by music, I suppose. That's why I've been moving to more and more experimental stuff. Of course, it's still nice to listen to a good indie pop song every now and then. And yet, these days, I find the weirder stuff that you've been sharing recently much more rewarding.

  4. Nice one, thank you. I did see them open for Modest Mouse about 20 years or more ago and always wanted to check out more from them, but they totally slipped my mind until now.

  5. Gawd I miss these guys. They've been quite since 2013. They just got better and better. The best kept secret in pop music in my never so humble. Thanks for posting.
