Another offering from Channel 1. Recorded at Channel 1, overdubbed at Black Star Studio by Ranking Dread. Backing band - Sly & Robbie tracks 1-5 (mixed by King Tubby) & Roots Radics tracks 6-10 (mixed by Scientist).
Channel 1 gathering seven great singles, serving up the original tunes & their flip-side version riddims. This slab is worth it if only for "Black Rose" by Barrington Levy (a true classic from an outstanding artist) along with "Black Rose (version)" with the oh-so-fine Roots Radics.
Along with the 2015 re-issue of the original 1981 Island album The Paragons comes this previously unissued accompanying Dub set: The Paragons Dubwise. A paragon is considered the model of excellence & in my mind, these Paragons are excellence...Dubwise.
Pablo Moses is best known for his debut album, 1975s Revolutionary Dream, produced by Geoffrey Chung, which included "I Man a Grasshopper", engineered at The Black Ark by Lee "Scratch" Perry. Pave the Way represents the final chapter in the trilogy of Pablo Moses’ works with the very brilliant & underrated producer Geoffrey Chung during the period '75-'81. It followed up his acclaimed debut album & his excellent sophomore album A Song which was his most successful album ever. This Tabou 1 re-issue includes the bonus CD Pave the Way Dub which I am presenting here.

Neville Staple was vocalist for The Specials back in the 2Tone Ska days before moving on to Fun Boy Three & then his solo career
Staple's early vocal style was mostly "toasting", rapping over an instrumental rhythm track. He honed his toasting skills in the sound system scene around Coventry during the 1970s, first on his cousin's Messenger Sound System & later on his own system called Jah Baddis.
Return of Judge Roughneck & Dub Specials was released in February 2017, co-produced by Staple's wife Christine. Here Staple recreates his famous Judge Roughneck character, first heard as part of the "Stupid Marriage" song on the Specials' debut album on 2Tone Records. The second half of the album consists of Dub tracks.
Rebelution in Dub features dubs of eleven of Yami's Rebelution album's fourteen tracks.
Yami is mostly known for his amazing vocals & lyrics, but this Dub offering presents some top-flight Dubwise. The album's highlights are "Ancient Trod Dub" (''Ithiopia"), "More Ises Dub" ["Pray"], the enchanting "Night to Day Dub" ("Empress I Love You") & the #1 hit "Break Free Dub" ("Liberation").

First let me say, there are two Burning Spears. However, they are both Winston Rodney.
Burning Spear 1.0 is the reggae trio of vocalists Winston Rodney, Rupert Willington, & Delroy Hinds during the early days from Studio One sessions to Man in the Hills in 1976. They released Garvey's Ghost, the Dub mix of the groups tour-de-force Marcus Garvey in 1975.
Burning Spear 2.0 is group founder Winston Rodney continuing with the Burning Spear name. He issued the Living Dub mixes of Burning Spear 2.0 recordings.
Garvey's Ghost is the Dub Mix of Burning Spear's Marcus Garvey 1975.

These limited edition albums were mixed down by a number of engineers over the decade, including Sylvan Morris, Syd Bucknor & Overton "Scientist" Brown, all under the auspices of legendary producer, sound system pioneer, & music entrepreneur, Clement "Coxsone" Dodd.

Note: I dreamt up this idea several weeks ago & have been preparing it with much deliberation. There are a few offerings that will make you wonder once again for my sanity or lack there-of. There are one's that are not necessarily pristine. One had the final track so messed up that I couldn't even rip it & had to substitute another track (a bonus track from the CD from the same session). I was still heavily influenced by my positive appraisal of 21st Century Dub & was weighted a bit in that direction. I didn't want to post things I felt were more well known, available elsewhere. I didn't want to post anything I already had (you wouldn't believe the problems that caused...big whole). I didn't want to trumpet the big names: Tubby; Joe Gibbs; Coxsone; Prince Jammy; Bunny Lee; Lee Perry...
but this was all before Pipecock blasted off.
So I've already been paying tribute to the Mage of DUB. I'll probably change up entries when the Super Ape mood comes calling, but I'll try not to be too maudlin. I'll stick to the plan as I can. Nice to start off with some of the finest 21st Century work...Martin Campbell & Alien Dread.
