On any post, if the link is no longer good, leave a comment if you want the music re-uploaded. As long as I still have the file, or the record, cd, or cassette to re-rip, I will gladly accommodate in a timely manner all such requests.

Musick that Needed Work - R: Randy Jacobs

Randy Jacobs was born in San Francisco & raised in Detroit. He started playing a music at the age of 13. After graduating from high school, Jacobs worked with former Miles Davis bassist/singer Michael Henderson. He co-authored the Top-Five R&B hit, "Wide Receiver." After a number of years working in the Motown scene Jacobs became one of the core members of Was (Not Was). While with the band, Jacobs co-authored the Top-Ten hit "Walk the Dinosaur" (here).

After Was (Not Was) disbanded he became a member of Soul Mission, a gospel R&B project featuring Tata Vega, Mavis Staples, Booker T Jones & Steve Cropper. In 1994 he formed his own outfit The Boneshakers, finally realizing his vision of funk, blues, R&B, rock  soul. He released two CDs, Book of Spells (here) & Shake the Planet both featuring his longtime Was (Not Was) band mate Sweetpea Atkinson on vocals for Pointblank/Virgin Records.

In 2005 Randy released From Me to You, his first jazz influenced solo instrumental CD on his Bad Monkey Recordings label. With appearances from Mindy Abair, Andre Berry, Rick Braun, Euge Groove, Wendy Moten, Bob Sheppard, Wayman Tisdale & co-producer Jon Gilutin.

Sit back & enjoy some sweet Soul musick...

For this next one you probably will want to get out of that seat & on your funky feet. Jacobs' next outing was another instrumental release but more varied than his jazz-flavored debut. For this one he revisited songs he had written fresh out of high school. He included five of those tune & wrote five new ones to flush out the CD.
