As I mentioned when I shared Red Seal at the end of January, once more I ended up biting off more than I could chew this month. I had built up a stovetop full of back-burner posts that were replies to folks who had commented at one time or another about previous shares. I had probably sez at the time:
"I'll get around to it when I can".
Well, the ole round to-it just keeps on spinning & I guess the time is NOW. Plus I've been trying to finish up the Musick that Needed Work series that seems to have been dragging on forever (only since 2015...ten frigging years...). I'm finally up to R this month.
Between these two categories I have again over-done it. I'm not complaining, though. Working on this mess, finding music to share with you all, has been keeping me from dwelling on other more darkly negative situations. I'm focusing on the musick & hope it can impart some delight for visitors here.
So on to Suggestions from Commentors...
On the memorial post at the time of David Lynch's death, Rico (Mister Kien) left a tremendous comment. In it he sez:
"I haven't seen Prolapse on your blog yet (but Blurt yes!)"
I replied that I had simply overlooked Prolapse as I am wont to do with numerous bands that deserve sharing that have simply slipped my time-worn mind. Prolapse - Pointless Walks to Dismal Places was always a favorite of mine. I'll start there & try to remedy my (pro) lapse.
Prolapse were an English indie rock band formed in Leicester, England active from 1992 to 2000. The group's sound was a mixture of punk rock, krautrock, & shoegazing styles. The band's sound was also characterised by the alternating, contrasting vocal styles of Linda Steelyard & Mick Derrick ("with the aim of being the most depressing band ever").

Brilliant to see Prolapse on your blog. One of the best live bands I've ever seen. Than you!
DeleteCor, smashing! You've really been setting my ears on fire recently, NØ. Long may you prosper. Cheers.
ReplyDeleteCheers, cheers...burning ears.
DeleteExcellent Nathan !
ReplyDeleteI've got all this but I'm sure many will enjoy getting into this excellent band. I discovered them with backsaturday, my cd had a different cover, more minimalistic, I like yours. After our exchange, I updated my collection with two peel sessions.
I enjoyed your mad professor month but did not download anything yet (still digesting the first batch of sound system culture). The first one with Pato Banton was my second dip into reggae after lee scratch perry, along with sign'o'the times from macka b and mad prof (that you shared before, I believe), during an incredible listening session ...
Take care
Thanks Rico.
DeleteLove this band! They are playing shows again and possibly making a new record. They recently stopped posting on facebook but they are on Bluesky. I have their Peel Sessions somewhere and can share them if there is interest.
ReplyDeleteProlapse also inspired the greatest music nerd discussion thread in the entire history of the internet:
https://ilxor.com/ILX/ThreadSelectedControllerServlet?action=showall&boardid=41&threadid=6737
That discussion thread is top bongos. Going on since 2002, can you believe it???.
DeleteThanks so very much. Prolapse have been amongst my favourite bands in the past ten or so years. They've been active again since 2015 and have just finished mixing their new album. Can't wait for it.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to new Prolapse myself. Should be excellent.
Delete"Pointless walks to dismal places" is a big part of my CV. I need to hear this group. thanks for the upload.
ReplyDeleteThank you, FB, for taking the time to comment. Hope it fits well with your own pointless/dismal.
DeleteRunning way behind as usual; I only had "Ghosts ..." & a couple singles/rarities collections so thanks for filling another big hole!
ReplyDeleteThat's what she sez.
DeleteFirst new Prolapse single ‘On the Quarter Days’ was played on BBC Radio!

Thanks so very much for the link to the new Prolapse tune. Much appreciated, my friend.
DeleteHere’s an mp3 of the song taken from the Riley & Coe BBC Radio show if you want to give it a listen.
