On any post, if the link is no longer good, leave a comment if you want the music re-uploaded. As long as I still have the file, or the record, cd, or cassette to re-rip, I will gladly accommodate in a timely manner all such requests.

Scanner Sounds

Scanner is a musical project of Robin Rimbaud, an electronic musician & multimedia artist from London. In his early works, Rimbaud tuned into the airwaves to pluck out pieces of radio, mobile phone conversations, & police broadcasts. These were intricately edited, then folded back into his compositions, producing an experimental genre of his own. I guess his style could be characterized as ambient classical. He has collaborated with DJ Spooky, Alva Noto, Kim Cascone, & Vitiello among many others.

This album starts off with vocal samples, strums of guitar by guest musician Michael Gira, & Rimbaud's own gentle singing. Shreds of found voices, radar transmissions, & environmental recordings populate this musical piece. This is probably Scanner's most personal release to date.

  2. And yet another excellent post ... This is definitely my favourive NSS month - thanks a lot, Nate!
I especially enjoy the Sleep Research Facility album you posted. Do you happen to have their "Dead Weather Machine" album and/or the "DWM Re:Heat"? Those are rather hard to get. Again, thank you very much!

    1. This is really excellent - many thanks! Also, thanks a lot for the Godspeed You! Black Emperor post. That's another band I never really got into, but for a long time I've meant to check them out again and give them a closer listen. So, this is the perfect moment to do so.
