That would have to be Jake Stephenson, here delivering the goods using the alias Ganja Beats.
Jake was a prolific UK trance/psytrance/ambient producer. He was born in Hersham, Surrey but lived most of his life in Glastonbury, Somerset. Stephenson was involved in a multitude of projects, the most well-known being his solo project Shamanic Tribes on Acid, his collaborations with Brian Trower (Optic Eye, Optica), & Matt Hillier (Alien Mutation vs Indigo Egg, Crystal Moon).
Ganja Beats sound is a psychedelic Dub infusion which mixes trance, Dub, & space psytrance. The style gives clear nods to Lee Scratch Perry, King Tubby, & 80s UK electro Dubber Adrian Sherwood, as well as Ambient greats like The Orb.

I'm pretty much a newbie to the world of dub and I find myself captured by your references to artists I know & like. The names Adrian Sherwood & The Orb caught me here... so I'm going to give International Herb a try. Many thanks!

Hope you find the International Herb to your taste. Some sweet ganja,
DeleteThanks a bundle for these New Year treats, NØ. I've got loads of goodies, old & new (to me) to see me through, though i'm looking forward to many more in '25. Keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteDoing the best I can, each & every day.
DeleteOh heck yeah! These are going right into the next up queue! Thanks NØ!
ReplyDeleteHas it really been 20 Earth-years since Jake beamed back up to the Mothership? Where did that time go?! I'm going to have to create a Planet Dog/Whirl-y-gig playlist for tonight featuring some of these! HNY NØ and many thanks for these and all your kind shares this year. 2025 promises to be "interesting"!!!

Wasn't sure how many people knew of Jake. Twenty years in the blink of an eye. Should have known you would know/honor the Beats. I've got Planet Dog Transmissions slated for January. Hope your selections go over well tonight. Great tuneage for a New Years Eve. Stay safe, my friend.
