Nicely indeed. I must put these at the top of the pile (albeit the pile is of Himalayan proportions now.) Cheers!
ReplyDeleteGlad you're enjoying these. Don't get buried under the pile. Keep'em rockin.

This looks interesting, some great players so I'm going to give it a listen. Many thanks, NØ.

Hope you enjoy. Seasoned greasing to you up in Canada.
DeleteNØ, daring daze and joyful jollyings to you! I am glad to see that you continue to put one foot afore t'other, despite any and all misgivings and miseries. Yr posts ooze history and humanity in the best ways, and your musical choices are second to none. Cheers!
ReplyDeleteNothing i've heard from OR-L has risen to the same level as In Casino Out, Vaya, or Relationship Of Command. Not a slight, those are nigh-untouchable creations, but everything I've heard since comes up short. For me, and that's simply a matter of taste, not of merit. Defacto i like because it's so different as to not really be comparable. But i think i'll have to give some of these a try, just for the hellofit. Any recommendations if i were to only listen to 1 or 2?
None of his solo work reaches the heights of At the Drive In, but is good in different ways. Much of it is more latin or world influenced, similar in someways to The Mars Volta. Try the first daze - Sworn Virgins, or give Blind Worms or Umbrella Mistress a go. Not sure you'll be totally thrilled however. All these are ORL showing various sides of his talent, enjoying the freedom to do as he wishes without the constraints of any given band.
