Persistent requester Christian, responding to the Higher than the Sun Wobble/Weatherall share in May, asked for some more Primal Scream.

1991s Screamadelica was the break-out release for Primal Scream. It won them the first ever Mercury Music Prize in 1992. For anyone into this type of music, it should be well known. So I bypassed that obvious one & decided to start with their first two before they were so well known.

    Confession time: i am, at best, ambivalent towards 'Screamadelica', perhaps because it's presence was ubiquitous for a time back in the early 90s, and i eschewed 'dancey' music as 'too commercial' (oh, the follies of youth!), being heavily into my Nomeansno/Butthole Surders/Jello Biafra trip; i only started to get into P. Scream once they opened up on the heaviness/darkness front with 'Evil Heat', 'Xtrmntr' and the thundering 'Live In Japan' (still my fave P. Scream album.) Ah, but i was so much older then, i'm younger than that now (thanks Bob) so it's time i re-appraised these early albums and gave them a fair go. Thanks for the opportunity, Nate.

    Primal Scream's 'Screamadelica' was never as big here in the US as it seems to be in the UK. I didn't hear it until years after it came out. I learned a few years ago that it came out the same week as some other massive albums. RHCP's 'Blood Sugar Sex Magik,' ATCQ's 'Low End Theory,' Pixies' 'Trompe le Monde,' & Nirvana's 'Nevermind.' Pretty amazing.

    That’s exactly the kind of detour I enjoy. Everyone goes straight to Screamadelica, but exploring the records that came before it gives you a much better sense of how strange and unpredictable their evolution was — cheers for going down the rabbit hole!.
