Thought I had all my Sun City Girls (& associated projects) all gathered in one file, but low & behold, when I was digging through this pile of off-casts, here was one by the Girls, needing some work, hiding from sight.
I am a devout follower of the SCG. I have shared them numerous times before:
here; here (& links to eight or nine more in comments); & a couple more you can find in the "Labels' list to the right.
Here'a a fine cassette that I had compleely misplaced. Hope you enjoy it as I much as I enjoyed finding it again.

Thank you, Nate. It's always nice to be reminded of SCG.
ReplyDeleteThey have such s depth of catalogue that there always seems to be something good waiting to be shared. This one was mis-filed & a pleasure to rediscover. Thanks, F-MUC.
DeleteThanks very much for all the SCG, Nate. I was just reading your capsule review of the Party Dozen over on Jonder's blog and was immediately sold on the band, so thought i'd try to find something by them. Here's what i came up with, for those interested in ear-scouring no-wave grit -

Thanks Richie for taking the time to serve up this link. The rest of the PD material is available from bandcamp for anyone interested.
DeleteYou see an image of those three apparitions and you immediately know it’s the ladies of Phoenix. Hope this finds you well, or at least as well as can be expected, given the situation we find ourselves in. Speaking of SCG, Sir Richard Bishop recently released his first solo guitar album in too many years. Reviews have been positive, many saying it focuses on his ‘John Fahey style of playing.’ Perhaps. As you probably know, his first solo album was actually released on Fahey’s Revenant label. At the time many reviewers also made the same Fahey comparison, totally off the mark as far as I could hear. Apparently Rick mentioned this to John, to which John replied ‘You sound nothing like me. You play like the Devil!’ Said Sir Richard, ‘After John said that, we got along just fine.” Anyway, I’d be happy to post a link here in the comment if you’d like. Better yet, anyone interested could shoot some cash his way: https://sirrichardbishop.com Rick also maintains a site selling rare collectable books focusing on the occult, magic, witchcraft, alchemy, erotica and other esoteric subjects. Given the asking prices, I suspect he must make much more there than with music. Enter at your own risk, at your own peril, or for your own benefit, depending on your point of view: https://www.richardbishopbookseller.com No doubt I’m boring with information you already know, but perhaps your readers/listeners will be interested. The last time I saw Rick was at a show in Richmond, VA years ago. I suggested, given the south Asian flavor of much of his work, “Ustad” might be a better title than “Sir.” Considering royal’s vileness through history up to the present day [Andy Windsor being the latest example] , who needs or wants an appointment/knighthood by the Queen anyway? He seemed willing to consider the idea. To his credit, I imagine he would rather mock the house of Windsor rather than the validity of serious Indian classical music or the titles it bestows to honor it greatest musicians.
ReplyDeleteGreat to hear from you, Rev. Great stories about SCG & SRB. Salvador Kali was indeed on Fahey's label but in my opinion sounds nothing like John. It's SCG Sir Richard style all the way.
ReplyDeleteWould love to share Bish's latest or if you want folks just to buy it, that's up to you...good either way. & I think "Sir" is a bit of a twisted joke from Richard.
Agreed, on the use of ‘Sir.’ I gotta say though, there are times I think playing rises to the level of Ustad. He’s just gotten better and better over the years. I’m going to be on the road the next several days, but if no one beats me to it, I’ll post a link in these comments when I get back. It’ll be in 320/mp3. If someone wants it in FLAC, etc., best to do what I did and send some loot Rick’s way.
ReplyDeleteThank you, kind sir. Enjoy the road.
DeleteThe road extends its greetings and has returned me so as to share:
