Before the New Year kicked into full swing, I was checking last years analytics. Several things jumped out at me. For the last four months I shared at least once a day, several days more than once. For the year I had more visits than any other year so far for NSS & I had surpassed my standing record of shares per year. Back in 2013 I tackled the Around the World Musick project & set my own record with 305 shares. That held until now, although I almost surpassed it last year with 304 shares. This year the number of shares was 309.
This all made me realise that I needed to slow up a bit before I get totally burned out doing this thing. I've been so busy here & in my day-to-day (other) life that I had to put visitor requests on hold. That I will remedy first this year.
Next, I decided I needed to do something about a folder I have that is busting at the seams. That is my "Overflow" folder. Whenever I'm preparing things around here, I always gather many more prespective candidates for sharing than I have the time or space for as things roll out. All the left-over files end up being dumped into "Overflow". It's been growing at an uncanny rate for several years. I am going to open that mess & try to make some sense out of it. I'd like to share what's worthy & file everything else where it belongs.
So starting today I'm going to fulfill any visitor requests until that plays out, then hit the "Overflow" folder for as long as that takes (or I get bored with the concept ot distracted by another idea). I'm just going to slow down a bit, I hope.
Requests
Frenz Christian is an enigma to me. He showed up sometime early last year (I believe). He makes random requests that very seldom have any connection to what I've shared (twice only were they relavant, in fact the Spear of Destiny tomorrow is only the second ever relevant request). His requests aren't even really music that I would listen to particularly. I've always tried to oblige & 8 out of 10 times I've come through (the only time I flatly refused was a Super Furry Animals request...(I have to draw the line somewhere). The thing about Christian is I'm not sure if he's human or a 'AI bot'. Sometimes his replies are word for word copies of previous replies (at least three time) & I don't really know anything about him personally.
But I've bought a seat at the game so I'm all-in until I finally go bust. The only thing I've done to reinforce my hand is to limit the requests to 10 per month.
Here's Christian's first unfulfilled request...Dansdepartementet - Niagara, the sophomore release from the 1980s Swedish post punk band.
Side 1 -
Händer Av Spindelväv
Eurolight
Syster Hämnd
Party Goes On
Side 2 -

You do us proud, Nate. It's always a pleasure to come here and be delighted, not just by your posts but as often as not, other correspondents' too.
ReplyDeleteTry to make this dump as warm & friendly as my own livingroom. Sit down, take a load off, relax to some good musick & kindly conversation. The good folks like yourself seem to enjoy it.
DeleteThanks a lot for your kind wishes and all the best for 2026! Of course, there isn't much reason that things are going to get any better. But anyway ...
ReplyDeleteAt least, we've always got your posts to look forward to (even though you should definitely slow down a bit ...). And this is an intriguing post, indeed.
I try to keep between the lines & obey the speed limit, but never was one for ridin' the brakes. Sometimes this thing just has a mind & momentum of its own. I'm not always fully in control.
DeleteThank you for all the presents and information you give us here and your kind offer to fulfill visitor requests. I missed "Resistance Mix" by Adrian Sherwood and would be happy if you make it available again. Wish you a happy new year, greetings from Germany
ReplyDeleteSeems as though the blog has some good friends in Germany: FlaccusMUC from Munich; Mauxuam from Berlin; & yourself being regulars. Thanks for all your support.
Delete& thanks for letting me know about the links for Ridin' the Slipstream. I'm in the process of re-uploading them as I type this. They should be ready, Resistance mix & all the rest, by the time you read this.
All best wishes for 2026. Don't forget your real life though, it's more important than the inter-web flim flam.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes to you as well. This actually is part of my real life...my only issue is having enough hours in a day to get everything accomplished.
DeleteHappy New Year, my friend! This is still my favorite blog, but NSS could use some SFA. What could anyone possibly have against animals, especially when they're furry AND they're super!
ReplyDeleteSFA = Super F**ed A**holes whenever I look it up. Happy New Years to you & famiky.
ReplyDeleteYou've left me no choice but to report you to the SPCSFA (Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Super Furry Animals.)
DeleteYou go ahead, big man. Won't be the first time I've run up against the SPCSFA. They're just a buncha S*&#F!&*ing Animal lovers. They got no muscle.
DeleteHappy New Year, Nate. I understand the confusion. My requests have never been ill-intentioned, just driven by curiosity and a desire to see how far the creative fusion can go, even if it doesn't always align with your tastes. I appreciate that you've responded most of the time, and I completely respect the boundaries you set. That said, setting a limit seemed fair: it keeps things manageable and ensures it stays enjoyable rather than draining. By the way. I'm human, greetings from Peru.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment, Christian. I was just riffing on a weird concept. I am always glad for your requests. I always try to respond, either with the share or with letting you know I don't have it. I try to be timely unless I am overly busy. I never thought you abused the process & I'm glad you understand the 10 per month limit (which I find is quite liberal after all).
DeleteMiddle of the summer in your hemisphere...I'm jealous. Happy New Year to you. Stay in touch.
Hello again, I have a request, but I don't know if it's possible: Do you have " Weightless" by See Spot Run? It's from 1999, but I can't find it anywhere. Can you please help me? Thanks in advance.
DeleteGood to hear from you again, Christian. See, that wasn’t so hard, was it?

Would you be able to track Electric junkies - Electric junkies 1995... it's been elusive for me.
DeleteLocal San Diego rock band with only the self-titled release in 1995. Good luck finding that one.
DeleteI understand that The Age Of Electric - Make A Pest A Pet this is from 1997 but can you please make an exception and help me with this one? Please let me know, thank you so
