On any post, if the link is no longer good, leave a comment if you want the music re-uploaded. As long as I still have the file, or the record, cd, or cassette to re-rip, I will gladly accommodate in a timely manner all such requests.

A Pair of Docs Walk into a Bar...

The Grandfather Paradox: An Imprudent Journey Through 50 Years of Minimalistic Music explores the history of minimalist music in mix CD format.

Although taking the name from the Rene Barjavel's proposed paradox which refutes the possibility of time travel: positing that a time traveler could theoretically go back in time, kill hir grandfather & therefore negate hir own existence, this paradox doesn’t seem to have hampered the Innervisions quartet of Dixon, Âme (Kristian Beyer & Frank Wiedemann), & Henrik Schwarz from attempting their own feat of time-juggling.

What results is a truly time-defying melting pot, where Steve Reich's gradual processes joins Robert Hood's groundbreaking "Minus", Richie Hawtin's mix of La Funk Mob's "Motor Bass Gets Phunked Up", "Bass-Line Generator" by legendary electronic composer Raymond Scott, post-punk from Liquid Liquid, classic Krautrock of Can to the skwonk jazz of Moondog (there's even one specially for yours truly - Ø's "Atomit").

For your aural edification there are both mixed & unmixed discs.

  2. There are so many great originals here, it's hard to know quite where to begin. Looking forward to thoroughly absorbing the mix.
