On any post, if the link is no longer good, leave a comment if you want the music re-uploaded. As long as I still have the file, or the record, cd, or cassette to re-rip, I will gladly accommodate in a timely manner all such requests.

  2. Darker by Light is typical rhythmic early Rapoon. It's a strong album with a clear concept, at first listen a bit monotonous, but there are numerous tiny sounds that are not too obvious, but make a fascinating listen, anyway. Very good one.
Shouting at the Ground, however, is one of the strongest Zoviet France albums, so this one takes the win (whereas Mooz chose Gesture Signal Threat, this is the album I would use to introduce people to ZF). It is much more versatile than the Rapoon album and yet to me it feels like there also is a clearly defined concept - as if the group really knew what they were doing. Whether they add different layers of sound to create impressive drones or use the stripped-down sound of plucked strings, they do it with admireable self-confidence and precision. I find it less mysterious than other ZF albums and if they all were like this, ZF wouldn't be as compelling as they are. But as it stands, Shouting at the Ground is a wonderful album.

  3. I guess by this point in the Play-offs that both teams are going for some of their strongest material, trying to shine their brightest for the Finals. Thanks brother for your continued support.

  4. This ZF release is not as engaging as many of their other releases. Its not bad at all, just not one of their best. The digital, squelchy processing on Carole and Marrch feels jarring and out of place. I do really like "The Death of Trees," though its not enough to hold up the rest of the album.

Solid album from Rapoon. Well balanced, has everything I want in there. No further details needed.

Easy win for Rapoon this time for me.

I've been enjoying this, but honestly will be relieved when the playoffs are over. Starting every day with these two artists has been enjoyable as they frame my morning routine pretty well. Its been an endurance test at times as I don't normally stick with the same artist day after day for deep listening. I enjoy the task most days.

    1. I think everyone will be glad when these Play-offs are over. Like you, not many folks listen to the same artist day after day, especially having the album choices picked by someone else. That was what I was thinking about when I dreamt up this idea. I am so glad you have perservered this long. Above & beyond that you have contributed color analysis of the whole event, for which I am deeply indebted. All I can say is, we'll see how you're holding up by the end of the month. That's right...as soon as the League Play-offs finish, we are switching our coverage to the Final Four going up against each other for the Singles Title. Now not two but four artists on daily replay. You've been warned.

    2. Thanks a lot to both of you. Both, Zoviet France and Rapoon, are among my favourite artists, so I didn't mind re-listening to one their albums every day. I don´t think that I would have contributed that many comments if I hadn't been such a fan of their music. As I said, I was hoping that some later (post Storey) ZF had been included, since those are missing from my ZF collection. But I've enjoyed revisiting these albums that I already know pretty well. So, I won't be relieved when this challenge is over.
      Will be back later today.

  5. Hello, thank you for sharing, I appreciate these two projects and I am fascinated by sound compositions created from an unconventional, exploratory perspective and particularly if they are made with that "primitive-ethno-tribal" concept. Z.F are genuine but excessively self-indulgent, many songs lack interest and in the case of Rapoon I find it too "static" their songs can be too simple, they don't evolve, they don't grow and it even seems conservative and boring to me...
In this case I prefer "Darker by Light", a varied album and one of Rapoon's best achievements.

  6. Hey, as I said on day 1, Shouting at the ground was my first encounter with ZF in the eighties, it was a pleasure listening to it again today. It is a very peculiar album, which I have to go to if I want a certain kind of mood, which I only find in a masterpiece like Canaxis.
Darker than light is ok, but it failed to fascinate me. I'll write more elsewhere about Rapoon.
That's one for ZF,if you still take it. I won't go back to each post, as I was always a little bit behind, but I'll do a resume at the end.
