Like Mooz I was wondering how you choose the pairings and this is certainly a particularly difficult one for me. Loh Land is certainly excellent. I find it a very versatile ZF record. In yesterday's comments, Rapoon's playfulness was mentioned, but today the ZF album is the playful one. I find Errant Angels rather subdued, the atmosphere is less hopeful than in other Rapoon albums. And I like that restrained approach, the subtle changes.
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised myself, but again my vote goes to Rapoon.
There is a mix of really strong moments on Loh Land like "Nostalgie De La Boue", "Al 'Ud", and "East Taunts West" and then some weaker moments, like "Dust Deoful," "Trom Eldr", and the center piece "Reson Deaw Gwalch" pretty much through the end of the album. It has several short pieces which are good in that the songs don't wear out and have more impact in a short format. Rapoon this time has a handful of long pieces that do wear out their welcome. The percussion is too repetitive and distracts from any progression in the ambience. ZF gets my vote this round.
