Terminal Cheesecake was started in 1988 in North / East London by Gary Boniface. The name was taken from a list of fictitious 60s band names created by Nick Saloman of The Bevis Frond.
The band has been crowned "London's Clown Princes of Synapse-shredding noise rock & queasy psychedelic abandon" by Jimmy Martin of The Quietus. TC often makes me think of Butthole Surfers, so if you like them, give it a listen.
Nearing the end of Terminal's first run, here the band is: Gary Boniface - vocals; Gordon Watson - guitar; Steve Fez - bass; & Simon Doling - drums.
The bonus CD track 'Interview by M.C. Lucke' is actually a live set & not an interview.

Yes, Terminal Cheesecake! This album is a favorite of mine, happy that you dig that as well (but not the least surprised). They reformed with Gnod vocalist recently...
ReplyDeleteQuite a few gems in the Ts already...
ReplyDeleteT shaped up to be quite the Treasure Trove. Thanks MK.
DeleteAgain, many thanks, Nate. I do like the Butthole Surfers, so I'll definitely give this album a listen.
ReplyDeleteNot exactly Buttholes, but they did consume massive quantities of psychedelics before playing live & many times Crazed out, much like the Surfers.
DeleteThis is another in that interminable, snaking queue of bands whose name i've only heard of but nothing more; thanks to you though Nate, and the Quietus' description of "Synapse-shredding noise rock & queasy psychedelic abandon" (not to mention drawing a line between them and the Butties) i now believe the time has come to put matters straight. Gravy, booby!
ReplyDeleteFar out, dude.
DeleteWonderfully bizarre and fun artist. Glad you are featuring them here. I came across "Gateau Despace" and bought it based on the cover image and weird band name alone. So glad I did. Then later followed the rabbit trail to their sister group Bud Alzir which is a really solid dub act and not at all what I expected from these crazy guys.
ReplyDeleteRizla Dub are definitely a surprise after TC. I like both for their different styles. T. Cheesecake eventually burned out before remerging in 2013 with a new line-up: recent Terminal Cheesecake features: Russ Smith (original TC); Horseloaf Horseloafson (Gordon Watson - original TC); Neil Von Fish (Neil Francis - Gnod vocalist); Dave Cochrane (bass); Johnny J Beat (J Jobbagy - drums).
ReplyDeleteWow, I did not know that Bud Alzir and TC were connected ! I only know them from Macro Dub Infection... And thanks for the line-up !
