On any post, if the link is no longer good, leave a comment if you want the music re-uploaded. As long as I still have the file, or the record, cd, or cassette to re-rip, I will gladly accommodate in a timely manner all such requests.

Northern Mariana Islands & Guam

I think that I am going to combine the Northern Mariana Islands & Guam, which is the southernmost Mariana Island, into one post. The people indigenous people of both these areas are the Chamorros.

The music of the Northern Mariana Islands & Guam is dominated by the folk music of the Chamorros, which remains an important part of the islands' culture. The Chamorro or Chamoru people are the indigenous peoples of the Mariana Islands. They are commonly believed to have come from Southeast Asia at around 2000 BC. They are most closely related to other Austronesian natives to the west in the Philippines & Taiwan, as well as the Carolines to the south. They are expert seafarers & skilled craftspeople familiar with intricate weaving & detailed pottery-making.

The Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI)  is one of two insular areas that are Commonwealths of the United States; the other is Puerto Rico. CNMI consists of fifteen islands in the western Pacific Ocean located about three-quarters of the way between Hawaii & the Philippines.
