Before I get too lost in the upcoming February insanity, I need to present the first (second!!!) installment of S-EXY (Selected from EXY) Listener's Digest. The first go-round was a two disc set of HIGH / NRG that I posted up as The Kernels of Goodness on the Prompted by Other Blogs, Part 6 post November last. That was before this actual project had hatched.
At the time, NSS regular rev.b commented:
“There's so much new-to-me stuff on Exy, it's hard to know what to try. The reviews don't help much because I don't know how much I can trust them. None of these artists are familiar, so I really appreciate these two 'listener's digests'. They're bound to be very useful and I imagine I'll go back and grab anything that sounds interesting. If you wanted to make a habit of posting these every few months, that'd be great. Either way, thanks for these.”

exystence.net is my usual first stop when I make the rounds of online music sources. There's nothing like it: Maybe 1 in 30 albums posted are "of interest" to me, but even so at least 5% of my "record collection" came from there. Whoever's running the show rarely misses a new release from my most favorite artists.

Thanks for the comments. I'd say I get 5% of my "new acquisitions" from EXY. I sort through a lot of slough to get the oyster, but some of them reveal some wonderful pearls of musick. But afterall, that's MUSICK. There is so much to sift through yet the effort is worth it. We all enjoy various differing styles & genre, bands or artists. Musick is my medicine.

You don't have to put name/URL every time. Just select Google account from the Anonymous/Name-URL/Google Account choices & it's good. & I will respond, though it may take a day. Be patient.
Thank you for this and the earlier Exy compilation. I'm not very technically gifted and I've just discovered that my ISP has blocked the main server that this site uses. The same is true for the jazz site server mentioned above. Frustrated nashing of teeth etc!
ReplyDeleteIf you mean Exy's server, they host on turbobit, rapidgator, & katfile. If you expand the article & select 320 or FLAC under the album artwork, you should be able to access the three choices. In rapidgator for example, just select the slow or free download. It'll make you jump through a bunch of hoops before finally letting you download, but you should be able to. If your ISP still is blocking, google info to unblock or check for youtube tutorial.
DeleteAs for the jazz site, seems if you select the album titled at the end of an article, it takes you to an extensive list of mirror sites. Should be able to get one to work. Hope.

Sweet! I've always felt that for every band/performer you know about and enjoy, there are bound to be a dozen more, if you only knew about them. Exy's a fantastic resource in that regard, I just wish they offered samples so you could get an idea if what they post might be one of that dozen. Yeah, I know, I could go to Bandcamp or YT and probably find a clip, but with the volume of stuff they post every day... SHEEH! I need to eat and sleep now and then. While it might seem limited to some, I also have this 'life' I'm required to show up for. So again, it's such a help that you're willing to run interference for me/us and provide a clue about what we might well be missing. Very much appreciated!

ReplyDeleteLiela Moss is an "old friend" to me (rather than a "new face"), as the former singer for the Duke Spirit. Her solo career has taken a different turn from her rock band, and she has a wonderful voice in any musical context.

DeleteYeah, man! Liela's current music is a lot different from the alt-rock of the Duke Spirit. Her partner Toby (who played guitar in the Duke Spirit) now does electronic music and remixes under the name IYEARA.
DeleteDidn't really know the Iyeara connection. Think the only thing I heard before was Exhale 7", but when I gave a search on youtube there was a Iyeara track of a cover of Tears for Fears - "Shout" with Liela singing that was quite good. Going to investigate Iyeara some more. Really like their (his) sound. Thanks so much.
