I wanted to interrupt the pescado parade here to mention the passing of Glenn Branca, but I'm so caught up in the whole look & process I've got going that I decided I'd just make an imaginary In the Fishtank: Glenn Branca. It’s really just Glenn’s Song’s ‘77 - ‘79.

Here’s Johnny!!! (& June & J-Bob & Jane)

I started attacking the alphabet back in August 2015 when I realized it would be a good way to fix up inadequate musick I had serving their stretch in a HELL called "Musick that NEEDS Work" It A-ll began with American Taboo & Art Phag. By July of the following year I was up to the Mighty H post. By January 2017 I had got no further than Ikara Colt. Since then, zilch...

A lotta shit happened since then, as shit has a tendency to do. I burned down my storage drive & actually no longer have the folder "Musick that NEEDS Work" (although there is always much repair still to be done).

But the idea sprang up again as I was piecing this brute from Nashville together & I decided to give it another go..

June of 44 was an American rock band which was formed in 1994 from ex-members of Rodan, Lungfish, Rex, & Hoover. The band's name refers to the period during which writers Henry Miller & Anaïs Nin corresponded. Their song relate directly or indirectly to Miller.

In the Fishtank is an ongoing project of Konkurrent, an independent music distributor in the Netherlands. In this project, Konkurrent invites one or two bands to record & gives them two days studio time. The first four albums were recorded by individual bands, but eight of the last ten releases were the result of two bands (three in one case) teaming up to record. The Ex is so far the only band to appear on more than one album in the series.

The following is a list of all the In the Fishtank releases:
In the Fishtank 1 – Nomeansno
    In the Fishtank 2 – Guv'ner
In the Fishtank 3 – Tassilli Players

Captain's Order

Fellow Blogger, loyal supporter & guest poster of NSS, & brother in Dub Jonder always stimulates my earholes & gets me digging for goodies long lost in the mess of my grey matter. His recent posts about the legendary S.F. label Subterranean Records had me searching through my Beefheart.  Beefheart, you ask?

Well, on Subterranean SUB 15 (1981) Various Artists - Red Spot there are three songs from Jed Speare & Easy Teeth: "Rotator Cuff"; "Twinkies"; & "Gondola Serenade".

Jed Speare (1954-2016) was a crossover artist who worked in sound, video, & performance for forty years. In the early 80s he recorded with Easy Teeth as well as the San Francisco groups Research Library (the previously mentioned Red Spot comp), Ultrasheen (City Boy 7" EP; Subterranean SUB 12), & Appliances.

Easy Teeth's 7" 45rpm was a one-off collaboration between Magic Band drummer Robert Williams, Magic Band roadie Paul Young, & vocalist Tito Larriva. 'Eazy Teeth' was a nickname given to Paul Young by Don because he was always smiling. The EasyTeeth single artwork features a Van Vliet 1980 original EAZY TEETH drawing (black felt tip on white).

A good fiend of NSS had some great luck crate diving recently. He came up with some valuable gems & sent me a few. I just had to pass this one on to everyone else visiting here. Thanks Xtm!

I am Spoonbender was started as a recording project in early '97 by Pansy Division drummer Dustin Donaldson & friend Brian Jackson . Dustin handled synths, drums, & vocals while Brian worked bass, synths, & Protools. When the band cub called it quits, their guitarist Robynn "Cup" Iwata joined IaS on the synths & vocals. The band was halfway through the making of their debut album Sender/Receiver.

For 2002s Shown Actual Size single, Dave Edwardson, bassist for Neurosis (& numerous other side gigs) joined Donaldson, Iwata, et. al for a fuller IaS sound.

6 Degrees of Separation

"When the child came, he would be prepared in the right way, watched over by the Comsat relays, hot lines open, the armies of the world immobilized. This time there would be no mistakes"

Taking their name from  this J. G. Ballard short story "The Comsat Angels", the band's original lineup (1978 - 1992) was: Stephen Fellows - guitar & vocals; Andy Peake - keyboards; Kevin Bacon - bass; & Mik Glaisher - drums.

"Includes free extra single 5 tracks in total JIVE 54".
