The 3rd of this month I shared some UK Dub as a request from Frenz of NSS Afro.
The share spurred a long discussion in the comments about 80s Sound System & the rise of the British Dub scene, with much further music shared there. Particularly of interest was The Rootsman (Joe Bolloten) & the Disciples. Before January ends, I wanted to share two more items to wrap up that tangent.
First up is one that came out on The Rootsman's Third Eye Music label in 1997.

Thanks NØ! Looking forward to hearing this. I remember listening to PCR when I lived in Bradford, tho I didn't hear this particular session. Cheers, Inertia
ReplyDeleteJust someone's recording of the program off the radio. Don't know about the sound quality but it was a really enjoyable listen for me. Of course me old ears aren't the greatest, but just hearing the music presented & the between-song conversation was most rewarding.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much. Looks quite interesting to me as well.
ReplyDeleteI'm just trying to finish up some requests. I also wanted to add these:

DeleteYou are most welcome. This is what we do.
DeleteThanks NØ! I can hardly wait to dive in!
ReplyDeleteJust hold your nose & take the plunge. The water's fine.
DeleteYou are a gem of a human and this is the best rabbit hole I've fallen down in a long time. What's your paypal?
ReplyDeleteThis rabbit hole is deep but there are plenty of safe havens along the way down to stop & savor. Thanks for your kind thoughts. As for paypal, this here is a labor of love. The payment I get is the pleasure other such as yourself get from things they find here. If you have suggestions, requests, or shares, that's what I value. Welcome aboard, Keith.
DeleteTell you what, I'm mid-setup on a private server for my archive, but once it's finished, there is a trove of trip hop I will get you access to, along with the rest of my stuff. My tastes are a little more mainstream than yours overall, but I think there's some stuff in there you would appreciate.
DeleteThank you so much for the generosity. That's the kind of payment that I appreciate. Sharing music is my whole motivation here.
Delete& coincidentally, you brought up Trip-hop. I dedicate September to Dub whenever I can & February to various styles: I've had Black History Month, Fems of February, Glass Animalisms...Well, this February is dedicated to Trip-hop all month.
Cosmic entanglement.
That is great NØ. Thanks!!Can't wait for the trip...
ReplyDeleteThanks, brother k.p.
DeleteNØ ,what more can I say, that show of The Rootsman was held two weeks after we move up from Leeds To Hebden Bridge ,our last tour gigs.We had a great a night there .The day before we live Leeds Rootsman invited me at his Pirate Radio Show at Chapelle Town (Leeds)....you bring me again another lost album- Ribirth with Russ D...waw what a album, these guys are ahead of thier time....you get the picture about my dub taste ....thanks a lot....keep on rocking!!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your remembrances of what must have been an incredible scene & time. As you know, I dabble in many styles of music so I'm not always sharing the Dub. But I do favor the Dub more tan other styles, so be patient with my tastes & I'll get back to it as I can. Anything you desire, leave a comment & I'll do what I can. Your original comment spawned a great discussion, great shares, & great fun times for me. Thank you so much.
DeleteNØ, like you Im into many musical styles ( afrobeat,Juju, Fuji, Benga, manding groove,Ethio Groove, dub poetry, Asian groove,Balkan, Samba,Arabic groove, latin funk,....with afrobeat my favourite is the old school one not the Nu afrobeat which to me looks like a horse race without horse, Roots rock reggae ,old school dancehall,nu roots, electro, jazz ,nu jazz, ) You know how to shake the coconut tree...keep on shaking to make our days...all d best
ReplyDeleteThanks, brother.
DeleteMany thanks NØ. Looking forward to the trip-hop. Also very interested in how Keith sets up his private server as has always been my dream too!

The wait for Trip-hop February is nearly over. Let the festivities commence.
ReplyDeleteGreetings NØ , Of course I don t send shout but almost every day when Im on in my job ,I keep on listening to the Rebirth album ,I consider it with Resonation ,as 2 of the masterpiece of Russ D.His collaboration withThe Rootsman is mind blowing-I ve sended emails to John ,trying to convince him to come back to the dub fusion, which I found have more wide horizon than the dancehall....to me the most innovative dancehall is the one of The Mad professor (Featuring Macka B)...
ReplyDeleteNB-.Covid19 basically destroyed many artists production , I do hope it s bad souvenir far behind us.
How was your eclipse trip? I hope you didn t forget your glasses?
Otherwise best wishes bro and keep flowing the spirit of the Dub music.
we remain in touch.
Good to hear from you, my friend. I have been crazy busy as of late. I am furiously working on Sound Systember as well as keeping up with the daily. The eclipse was spectacular & we all had our glasses.
DeleteI knew you were still around, I often feel your presence, skankin' around to that Dubwise beat in the background of my mind. Stay in touch, brother.
Greetings NØ, by The =The Realms Of The Unseen=(The Rootsman),what a outstanding album along with =52 Days To Timbuktu=,=The rebirth=....Im having a great evening, enjoying the Dub vibes.....
